Resonance
The Resonant inhabiting the Tyndarite Escarpment are peculiar creatures, and even more peculiar is their form of communication; bursts of bizarre tonal frequencies that vibrate the very air itself. This language, so to speak, has been dubbed Resonance.
What is known is that there seems to be a commonality to be found in the frequencies and timing of vocalizations used in certain circumstances. What are assumed to be greetings between the Resonant and those they might happen upon are often short, higher-pitched bursts, while the vocalizations made in situations where it is assumed the Resonant are protecting the Tyndarite found scattered across the escarpment are drawn out, lower pitched bassy thrums.
Researchers of the Enlightened Few believe that it is possible that the Resonant understand the common tongue spoken by the peoples of Nascindor, which only compounds the mystery around the already enigmatic giants.
The S'aue, whose chronometronomes are especially affected by tonal frequencies passing through them find it markedly unpleasant to be in the presence of "talking" Resonant.
This is to be expected to a degree, as the true nature of Tyndarite is that of nascent Resonant, so it stands to reason that their vocalizations would be able to affect them in unique ways.
Some of these ways include, but are not limited to;
The rest of humanity, with the First Contact still in their minds, are less keen on poking at the Resonant than the mages of Pluthem, and the Arachnitha have little interest in disturbing the floating colossi. Perhaps they feel a certain kinship with the Resonant, being almost as alien to the humans and the S'aue as they are.
Mysterious Language
It is evident that there is meaning behind the vocalizations of the Resonant, but as they are so utterly alien when compared to literally any other form of communication found among the peoples of Nascindor, research into this meaning is slow and based on a lot of guesswork.What is known is that there seems to be a commonality to be found in the frequencies and timing of vocalizations used in certain circumstances. Tyndarite
Resonance exhibits a unique relationship with Tyndarite, the vibrations causing the tonally active mineral to change in ways that seem unachievable via the methods employed by researchers and blacksmiths that have worked with the material.This is to be expected to a degree, as the true nature of Tyndarite is that of nascent Resonant, so it stands to reason that their vocalizations would be able to affect them in unique ways.
Some of these ways include, but are not limited to;
- Causing the crystals to assume a liquid state which is then absorbed into the Resonant
- Shattering the crystals into smaller shards that reassemble after some time
- Causing a reverberation effect, the crystals amplifying the Resonance to levels where damage to hearing is a real possibility
- Initiating a change in the crystals, morphing them into a state of matter that conforms to none of the four known states
Contact
Both the mages of the Enlightened Few and the brightest inventors of the S'aue Empire are hard at work devising ways to communicate with the Resonant. To date, neither the magical or technological approach has yielded reliable results, but both groups remain unperturbed by the repeated failures.The rest of humanity, with the First Contact still in their minds, are less keen on poking at the Resonant than the mages of Pluthem, and the Arachnitha have little interest in disturbing the floating colossi.
