Drowned Rat Distillery
Druvenia is known for many sorts of, more often than not illicit, goods and services. You can find weapons crafted by artisans of varying skill, food and drink from chefs all around Nascindor and if you have the stomach and wherewithal to attend the Midnight Exchange, only the sky is the limit for what you can find.
But one thing Druvenia is not known for is spirits. There is but one distillery in the entire city-state, but make no mistake, there is more to the Drowned Rat Distillery than meets the eye.
This location has fueled the rumors circulating around the distillery, which are only compounded by the secretive nature of its owners.
Like most spirits, the alcohol content is produced through the distillation of fermented ingredients, but exactly what that fermented ingredient is has been a mystery for the entirety of the distillery's lifespan. The taste profile, if it can be called that, makes it unlikely that it is any sort of sugar or grain.
Speculation about this mystery ingredient is rampant, but as the proprietors of the establishment refuse to make themselves known and shed light on the issue, speculations they will remain.
Anyone who applies for work at the distillery must sign waivers that practically sign away their entire life to the company, as said waiver also requires the employee to actually move into the distillery for the duration of their employment, which almost invariably seems to be for life.
No one is allowed into or out of the distillery at any time of day except to take in deliveries, which are received well outside of the building proper and moved inside by hand by the employees. Eyewitness accounts of said employees range from nothing out of the ordinary to describing them as sickly pale and struggling to lift the deliveries.
Since the Sullen Council does not wish to interfere in the disputes of the people of Druvenia, the Purification Guild has no real leverage to make demands, and thus the distillery remains closed to them as it does to the public.

Founding
The Drowned Rat Distillery was founded shortly after the founding of the city-state of Druvenia, making it one of the first establishments to be recorded in the ledgers of commerce kept by the Sullen Council. Nearing three centuries, the distillery has stood in its rather unfortunate location right above the sewage outlet of the city. This location has fueled the rumors circulating around the distillery, which are only compounded by the secretive nature of its owners.
Products
There is only one product that is produced in the Drowned Rat, and that's a liquor carrying the charming name of "Embalmers Delight". This bright green spirit is so stiff that it is considered outright toxic by some.Like most spirits, the alcohol content is produced through the distillation of fermented ingredients, but exactly what that fermented ingredient is has been a mystery for the entirety of the distillery's lifespan. The taste profile, if it can be called that, makes it unlikely that it is any sort of sugar or grain.

Secrecy
As mentioned earlier, those who run the operations of the distillery commit to utter secrecy around the processes and ingredients involved in the production of Embalmer's Delight.Anyone who applies for work at the distillery must sign waivers that practically sign away their entire life to the company, as said waiver also requires the employee to actually move into the distillery for the duration of their employment, which almost invariably seems to be for life.

Health Hazard
Since the founding of the Druvenian Purification Guild after the ravages of Rat-Rot, the purifiers of the guild have repeatedly demanded to be allowed to inspect the facility and call the unsupervised production of spirits a potential health hazard for the public.Since the Sullen Council does not wish to interfere in the disputes of the people of Druvenia, the Purification Guild has no real leverage to make demands, and thus the distillery remains closed to them as it does to the public.
I'll peddle the stuff, sure, but you won't catch me drinking it.–A Druvenian merchant, referring to Embalmer's Delight
Who knows what they put in it?
