Dissection Report #48

Dissection Report #48

Subject: Male, aged 41
Subject status: Deceased, ruptured chest cavity, multiple internal lacerations
  Time of death: Indeterminable
Subject, a Seeker of the Circle of Dawn, was brought to the clinic of the House of Learning in the afternoon of the 7th day of 5th Rotation, 112RE.
Subject's compatriots explain that subject has fallen victim to an as of yet uncategorized hateling which they describe burrowed inside the body of the subject.
Preliminary dissection reveals the internal organs have been lacerated via multiple puncture wounds and present an unknown type of tissue or membrane. The lungs are full of fluid, suggesting that asphyxiation might have been the cause of death.
Upon further examination, the heart muscle appears abnormal. It is motile, but in a way that is inconsistent with a healthy pulse, and the muscle itself presents protrusions of the same unidentified tissue found in the other internal organs.
After a thorough dissection of the heart muscle, I have made a worrying discovery. The subject's heart was no longer his heart. The hateling had, presumably, devoured the heart and taken its place. The unidentified tissue found across the internal organs of the subject were vasculature spreading from this abominable creature. Heavens only know what would have taken place had the creature managed to get a circulation going in the dead subject.
I set forth that this new type of hateling be designated "Heartworm" and this report to be archived for posterity. I will also be sending a copy of this report and the attached diagram to the Seeker fellowships, so they might inform their troops about this new threat.
    Most humbly yours,
Cadius Arruveus
