Mental characteristics
Personal history
Zagrath and his community named him sometime after the gods taught them language. His name is a combination of zagren, meaning "to remember" and grath meaning "word."
He was fascinated by language and history, appointing himself an oral historian for the community. As he grew older and the list of stories to remember and recite grew longer, he wanted a way to remind himself of specific stories. He experiemented with various forms of visual aids, from drawings or paintings, to a series of representative symbols, before devoting time and effort to creating a rudimentary syllabary. He made some basic inks by reducing fruit juices and dipped sharpened sticks or cut feathers into the ink to make markings on tree bark and smooth stones. In this manner, he was able to record a number of stories from his time as oral historian.
