Session 35
This session began with the party making their way out of the Shadowfell cemetery. Once back in Everclear, Claudia announced his decision to officially retire in Everclear as all of the thoughts around death got him thinking about how he wants to spend the rest of his days. The party said their goodbyes and promised they would visit him.
As they were finally making their way back to Shiro's shack, they were stopped by Alabaster Craine (the Law Master of Everclear) accompanied by several officers. He informed them there was a warrant our for their arrest for attempted murder and disturbing the peace. Reluctantly, the party chose to comply and were escorted to the jailhouse.
That night, they were contacted collectively in their dreams by the governor. Despite their resevations, the party listened to what he had to say; the governor assured them that he would not harm them here and that he required their help. He had been Control Keyed by Tremont's father and wants the party to free him in exchange for putting their past behind them. He then filled them in regarding Tremont's father's plans. His primary goals at this time are killing the party, Damian in particular, and collecting Tremont's Keys. He also clued them in to the fact that he is particularly annoyed by the fact the Damian is almost always around Vaision. The governor then offered the vast resources he has as governor and what little cooperation he could provide while awake.
The party said they would consider the offer if the governor helped them out of their current legal troubles in Everclear. They then hatched a plan to try and get them exonerated. The party would claim self defense and the governor would appear in the courthouse to assault them once again. Since he would not be in right mind to end his assault willingly while he was awake, he said he would cast Contingency on himself to teleport him away if someone spoke aloud the words "Begone Thot"
Fast forward to the next day and everything went according to plan; kind of. The party plead not guilty, citing self defense. The governor showed up and cast shatter in the courtroom and the party banished the governor. Xaverie commanded "Begone Thot" and the governor disappeared. To nobody's surprise, the charges of attempted murder were immediately dropped. The charges for disturbing the peace, however, were not. The party was then given a choice between a sentence to lifetime imprisonment or an appeal to the Overseer.
The party opted for the appeal and the court broke out in laughter. Clearly they all knew something the party did not. The officers then escorted the party to the town hall and locked them inside for their "appeal".
The party quickly realized the Overseer was yet another beholder that had no intentions of hearing them out. this particular beholder had the unique ability of turning creatures to stone with their main eye instead of an antimagic cone. Despite this, the party quickly overpowered the Overseer and finished the job.
When the party emerged from the town hall, they informed the Law Master of what they had done to his complete shock. He then explained to the party that the Overseer was a necessary evil that kept other, more chaotic creatures from attacking the city. In light of this, the party offered to transport the entire population of Everclear to Clonio. The Law Master reluctantly agreed on the condition that it was to be announced as if the order were given by the Overseer so nobody would know he was dead.
The party then made the announcement to the people of Everclear and opened a portal to the docks of Clonio in the town square that would remain open for 3 days. The party then traveled to Mapleton in hopes of avoiding the governor for the time being.
