The Order of Miir

The Order of Miir was an offshoot of Mythra Academy that has since separated. They have a unique focus on studying the historical texts of the Grand Library of Nebet hoping to uncover lost knowledge from the Age of Dragons and bring the world into a platinum age.

Separation from Mythra Academy

Division stirred among Mythra Academy regarding who should be the next High Archmage following the death of Rafaj Madea. Both of High Archmage Madea's pupils: Mdogo Kiongozi and Mahad Wahum were eligible and garnered a heavy amount of support behind them. Mdogo, the more studious of the two, believed that focusing resources on the Grand Library of Nebet and restoring it to its former glory should be the Academy's highest goal. In contrast, Mahad, the more skilled of the two, believed in focusing on finding the Eye of the Desert to transform Nuhria into a lush vibrant country where all can prosper. After a vote by the High Council of Archmages Mdogo lost the race for High Archmage, after this Archmage Mdogo and those who followed him set out to establish the Order of Nebet, their own academy location.

Early on the order studied the ancient texts of the Grand Library of Nebet, working alongside the Nebet'Akaan and Kemah. That changed when the storm dragon Miir'Khaa arrived to kill Nebet'Akaan and take the library for himself. Although the members of the order were skilled over half of them died fighting to defend the library, those that survived were forced to submit to him and now serve him.

The order eventually reached out to Mythra Academy, sending one of their most promising Acolytes - Fezer, an Aetherian acolyte who showed exceeding promise in drake riding. When he arrived to Mirage he was met with force and hostility and was unable to rendezvous with High Archmage Mahad to ask for aid.

Enchantments

Various enchantments surround the Library of Nebet to protect the ancient tomes and scrolls stored there.
  • Unless willed by the Grand Librarian, no books or scrolls may be taken from the library
  • If the Grand Librarian leaves the library all texts within the walls of the library become indecipherable regardless of their origins.
These enchantments have caused the order to use creative measures to teach classes. While the second enchantment does stop normal notes from being written, pictographs are left unchanged. Because of this, many of the recent documents within the library have been made with images depicting events, rather than detailed notes.

Curriculum

Acolytes are required to major in two fields at the Grand Library. With the departure of the Grand Librarian, the number of courses offered has become limited with multiple department heads leading each major.

Combat

The combat major is divided between fencing and marksmanship and is led by Professor Quiro and Professor Javio. First years explore various different fighting styles and weaponry to discover what suits them best. They later go into more intense training with their preferred weapon.

Culinary

Being led by Professor Estio with the aid of Professor Ynin, the culinary program is responsible for preparing food for all members of the order and preparing food as an offering to Miir'Khaa four times each year.

Draconology

Led by Professor Sacronis and Professor Tandin, this is the deadliest of all the majors offered by the order; with only twelve of fifty four surviving the first day. Every year domesticated Spiketails are brought to the library, from the city of Alyana, for any would-be drake tamers. Most Acolytes underestimate the drakes and are immediately killed. Those drakes are then later prepared by the culinary students and offered to Miir'Khaa as food. Those that survive the course often go on to become "Riders" for the order, retrieving what they can from the surrounding areas as tribute to Miir'Khaa.

Photonarcana

The study of light magic. Photonarcana is currently being spearheaded by both Professor Kimas and Professor Albar as a substitution for the core Arcana and Artificery courses until the return of Kemah.

Physical Education
The Physical Education major is led by Professor Alejandro, and goes into intense training involving waking up at 5 am every morning, going to sleep by 8:30 every night, sticking to a strict diet, and intensive exercise.

Theater
The theater major serves as the main form of entertainment in the order. Two plays are put on each year by the theater company, with various small two-person shows throughout the year.

Notable Members

All members of the Order of Miir were high-ranking individuals in Mythra Academy who sided with Archmage Mdogo. All members of the order share a notable feature, bright blue eyes. This is because of the blessing of Miir'Khaa giving them the blood of a storm dragon coursing through their veins. Like the Academy, most of the mages of the Order tend to some mixture of duster or poncho, and carry a firearm as opposed to wands or staves.

Department Heads

Archmage Mdogo

Mdogo is the founder of the Order of Miir, and serves the order through deliberation between disputes and maintaining peace among both members of the order and any outside forces that may seek to end those at the library.

Professor Albar Baezel

Professor Albar is a former druid of the Brunaas tribe and head of the Arcane Studies major. They believe that when we learn from the past we honor our ancestor's legacies and can continue to build upon the foundations they laid out for us. It is through these legacies that we achieve immortality.

Professor Kimas Miramontas

Not much is known about the mysterious Head of Artificery Professor Kimas. Most agree that he grew up in the cold tundra of Fiirndil and lived there for about thirty years before moving to Nuhria. The reason for his move is debated even among other faculty members and is just one of many rumors floating around about him. Kimas' teachings focus on learning from the mistakes of the past and believe that it is through mistakes where true growth happens.

Professor Ynin Mixia

Professor Ynin is the head of the Herbology major. Before joining the order, she spent twenty years traveling through Nuhria collecting and documenting over four-hundred unique species of plants and fungi throughout the desert. She is a staunch opponent of High Archmage Mahad and thusly has lent her support to Archmage Mdogo.

Professor Sacronis

Professor Sacronis is an expert on Drake Taming and Riding. He has never revealed his full name to anyone, and is rumored to secretly be a drake himself. After an accident where he was flung off his Spiketail, he has been paralyzed from the waste down.

Professor Tandin Medoza

Professor Tandin is an expert on Draconomy and the author of "Dragons: Winged Lizards or Scaled Gods?" She is the youngest of all of the lead faculty members, but also possibly the brightest.

Professor Diin Quiro

Diin Quiro is a high elf from an unknown kingdom. When they arrived to Mirage, Diin had no memory of their life or any details about themself. Mdogo found Diin wielding a longsword, covered in blood, standing next to a decapitated wyvern. This was ten years ago, and every week Mdogo has worked alongside Diin to help recover more of their lost memories. Diin tries to uphold the chivalrous lifestyle of the elves that they have read about, but has an immense fear of visiting any elven cities and avoids other elves at all costs.

Professor Javio Robles Amilo

Javio only recently joined the Academy but quickly moved up in the ranks thanks to his sharpshooting and sniping skills. Before joining he was a wealthy farmer in a small village and was well-known as a hunter thanks to his incredible marksmanship. The Sultan of Akaanrah attempted to recruit Javio into his royal guard over a dozen times before Javio joined the Academy. Javio places a special emphasis on the importance of patience in marksmanship and believes the self-named "Spell Slingers" are brash and reckless, though Javio himself has been known to be be quick to brandish his pistol if anyone refers to him as a woman.

Professor Alejandro Gario

Professor Alejandro grew up in a small village about twenty miles out from Ebberhaven. His family was poor, but they supported his dreams of joining Mythra Academy and becoming a mage. He has always carried with him a belief that to keep your mind sharp your body needs to be functioning at its peak.

Professor Vidin Kemas

Professor Vidin has been involved in the arts since a young age, with the theater being a home away from home for him. While working with the academy he mostly worked with children encouraging the same love of the arts that he had. He is particularly fond of practical effects and older plays. His students often quote his go-to saying "They just don't write 'em like they used to."
Professor Marti Bernas

Professor Marty followed Mdogo believing that he had a stronger conviction to caring for the mental well-being of students at the Academy. Marti helps students who are struggling with their education and hopes that the library's vast history has useful information that will allow her to help more students prosper.

Professor Estio Olvero

Professor Estio focuses on revisiting the cooking techniques of the past and evolving those techniques with modern recipes to create an elevated yet authentic blend of flavors and textures.

Other Notable Figures

Nebet'Akaan

Nebet'Akaan was a twin soul dune dragon and founder of the Grand Library of Nebet. Under her rule during the Age of Dragons the library flourished and gained most the tomes it has to this day. When mortals began revolting against the dragons, Nebet permanently sealed the library off until her return over 2500 years later.

Miir'Khaa
I have dined with gods, I have slain titans, I have shaped continents.
I think of things and feel emotions that no language you create could ever express. So tell me lizardkin, why should I listen to your pleas and deny myself the pleasure of eating you?   -Miir'Khaa

Miir'Khaa is a storm dragon and ruler over the Cobalt Dunes. He is a fearsome combatant who kills anyone that gets in his way. He views mortals as lesser beings who are only fit to be devoured and demands the tribute of food in exchange for mortal's lives. At the start of each season, Miir'Khaa arrives for his tribute before sleeping in the Grand Hall.

Grand Librarian Kemah

Kemah is a sphinx who serves as the acting Grand Librarian. When Miir'Khaa attacked and killed Nebet'Akaan, Kemah fled to seek aid from Khnem'Akaan. Years of isolation in the library have left Kemah to be standoffish to others, unsure of the customs of the modern world.
