The labyrinth of Crete

Underneath the island of Crete there is said to be a huge labyrinth, no one but Theseus has bested yet. The entrance to it is a large ruined palace, where a pride of lions has settled down. The ruins seem to have been there from the beginning of time when Gaia sprang into existence. This is not completely true, though they have been there for millenia they haven´t been there for ever. The labyrinth itself has been built by Daedalus for King Minos of Knossos.
Daedalus was the most skilled rchitect known in all of Greece, so King Minos bade him to build a labyrinth to hold captive the gruesome monster that terrorized his lands - the Minotaur. Daedalus spent day and night constructing a maze so crafty and tricky that he himself barely escaped.
The palace above the labyrinth used to be one of unimaginable beauty, but now lies in ruins after being abonded for a new and grander palace. Over time the structure fell and its inhabitant became legend. Now the palace is home to wild animals that dare to come close to the labyrinths entrance. The labyrinth itself hasn´t been entered in centuries. At least none came back to tell the tale. But people going near it talk about loud roars echoing from the deep beyond and making even the strongest man and the wildest animal flee the place.

Charge. If the Minotazr moves at least 20 feet straight towards a target and then hits it with a horn attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 13 (3d8) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 10 feet away and knocked prone.

Actions

Multiattack. The Minotaur makes three attacks: two with its fist, and one with its horns. If the ghour hits the same target with all three attacks, it may use gore against that target as a bonus action.
Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.   Horns. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage.   Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 26 (4d10 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 17) and restrained. The ghour can grapple one creature this way, and can't gore another target while doing so.   Roar (Recharge 6). The Minotaur emits and ear-splitting roar. Each creature within 60 feet of the ghour that can hear it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be stunned and deafened for 1 minute. If the save fails by 5 or more, the target is paralyzed for 1 minute, and deafened permanently. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Architecture

The labyrinth was carved into the sandstone beneath the palace, it´s walls are rough and often tunnels are small or end in pits. The center of the labyrinth is a mosaic of a white bull ridden by a young queen. From this center countless ways branch out in different directions, often bringing the person trying to finde their way to the surface back to where they started. Over time more and more of the floors and ceilings have collapsed.

History

During the golden age of men the palace was first build to house the kings ruling the isle of Crete. These kings have long since been forgotten, but the palace stayed the livingstead of the Cretan kings for millenia, each one adding to it and renovating it. The labyrinth was one of the last aditions to the old palace. Though the palace stayed a homestead after Theseus defeated the Minotaur, none felt to comfortable living above the labyrinth and the tomb of such a monster, always frightened it might come back from the dead to haunt those that imprisoned him.

Tourism

People came from all over to try and best the labyrinth and its inhabitant, but none until Theseus managed that feat. Young men saw this as a feat to prove their manliness or to prove themselves to a disaproving father of a woman they loved.
