Great Conflict

The tension began when humans learned how to build cities. For thousands of years they huddled in caves and temporary shelter made out of hides. One day a Ryuujin suggested to a group of travelers that they should travel the lands and speak with the dragons of Mytheria. Under the Ryuujin's careful protection, they discovered that certain dragons created fertile soil, where wild radishes, corn, and beans grew in abundance. This is where the travelers took their family, under the protection of a grassland dragon.   With a steady supply of food, this became the beginnings of Balance, in honor to the dragon that protected from. This would become an ironic name, as it later became the epicenter of a great tragedy.   Balance became the jewel of Human and Pygmy society. The marble and stone buildings shone brightly, with magnificent libraries and museums of the arts. The harbor stretched as far as the eye can see, with boardwalks and vendors happily trading with the local Axolotl. The Couatl eventually founded the continent, their wonder lust rewarding them with a profitable trade route. It was rumored the city was so astounding, even the Couatl made a small settlement, despite their nomadic lifestyle.   The city grew and grew, along with other settlements in the east. Balance lived up to its name, the four races living in peace.   Unaware of the city, the local spirits suffered. Trash, mining, and fishing practices killed off the local wildlife. Magnificent deer that once proudly walked the lands disappeared. Fish that swam in massive schools became rare. The grassland dragon became sick from providing so much for the acres and acres of farmland.   The Axolotl noticed first. Offended, the Couatl defended their trade partners. "They always stick to tradition, refusing to change. Our people have had to hold our ground in every settlement by Yin's great oceans." With this advice, the humans and Pygmy's continued their growth. Eventually Yin came to the city of Balance, sensing the lack of fish in the area. What she saw infuriated her. Yang however was right behind, furious at Yin.   "What are you doing in the river of Harmony? These are my territories. You have your massive oceans." Yang boomed, the oceans growing uneasy.   "These... simple creations have eaten your fish my brother. I simply came to punish them for you," Yin snapped back.   "But these are my shores, not yours. I should be the one to pass judgment, not you." Yang rose up from the seas.   "Ha!" Yin scoffed. "You spend all your time in your Oasis, letting your pet lizards groom you while your territory suffers! I should rename this the Ocean of Harmony."   This was wen Yang snapped, biting his own sister in the neck. The resulting battle create a Tsunami, the first and most devastating. The city of Balance was destroyed.   Furious that the Couatl and Axolotl gods destroyed their shining city, the Pygmy and the Humans banded together to push Couatl and Axolatl out of their cities. A Ten year war was the result, and with the spirits pushing back as well, the Humans and the Pygmy lost. In one of the battles, the seasonal dragons even came out, the seasons of Fall and Winter clashing with Spring and Summer.   After the Great Conflict, Mytheria's only war, the Axolotl and Couatl created a treaty. Humans and Pygmy's were allowed one great city, while the rest would remain around a population of a million or less. The Axolotl also occupied the lands of the former Balance City, creating FarHope underground.   Yin and Yang also agreed to call the water between the two great land masses the Sea of Disharmony, creating neutral waters.
