Umbranox
Umbranox is a disorienting city of mirrored stone, moon-glass panels, and narrow crescent streets designed to confuse, conceal, and refract. Built across a series of stepped cliffs, its architecture bends light into shimmering distortions—alleys appear to split, courtyards seem larger or smaller than they are, and even locals can become lost if they let their attention drift.
The city is quiet by day, but at night it glows with soft lavender and deep-blue reflections, fed by bioluminescent minerals woven into its stonework. Pools and canals act as lenses, doubling and tripling the cityscape in shifting liquid reflections. Outsiders describe the place as “dreamlike, slippery, and unnerving,” a city where truth feels thin and reality flickers around the edges.
The Umbranyx designed Umbranox as both a home and a weapon:
- Mirrors everywhere to distort identity
- Hall-of-lie chambers used for political theater
- Crescent-arc walkways that spiral through districts of shadow-glass artisans
- The Liar’s Court, where officials debate exclusively through controlled falsehoods
- Reflection Wells, where visions appear unbidden and not always truthfully
To the Umbranyx, lying is an art, and Umbranox is their greatest masterpiece—
a city where every surface can be watched, every word can be hidden, and every truth has a shadow.
Deep resentment between Umbranox and the Lumesylv capital of Illastir bleeds into every aspect of the city: art, ritual, politics, even fashion. This slow cold-war of light vs reflection shapes the regional culture of western Keotura.
Those who visit Umbranox rarely leave with the same memories—if they leave at all.
