Nâdîntu, Goddess of Darkness & Control
This article is a WIP. Stuff like additional information and art will be added soon.
Wherever there is light, there inevitably exists an object that obstructs it. I am the child of the product of that obstruction.
Who Is She?
The Mother of Darkness stands as one of the most dreaded deities in Mytharae, commanding fear and reverence from both mortals and gods alike from Her dominion over darkness and control. Reflecting Nâdîntu's tyrannical essence, Her churches frequently impose stringent, almost oppressive regulations and authoritative figures who demand unwavering loyalty from their devotees. Those who challenge Her doctrine often encounter severe repercussions, underscoring her unwavering grip on the world.
Origin
The sudden death of Malama - God of Light & the Sun, plunged the world into a thick, suffocating darkness, the silence broken only by the whispers of fear and confusion. This event became known as When The Sun Was Snuffed Out. Birthed from the overwhelming seas of shadows and despair were a myriad of terrifying gods—gods that would strike dread into the hearts of anyone that heard their names.
The most powerful of these beings was the embodiment of darkness and shadows. A living consequence of the absence of light.
She would adopt the name "Nâdîntu", roughly translating to "controlling darkness," a name befitting of Her nature.
With ruthless determination, She extinguished every glimmer of hope and planted seeds of doubt and distrust in fragile minds, gradually diminishing their hope and convincing them to worship Her. As Her influence spread, whispers of fear echoed through the air, suffocating any remnants of rebellion. One by one, they succumbed to Her control, blinded by their newfound devotion.
Even after Malama was revived and light graced the world once more, Nâdîntu's lingering presence, despite its diminished strength, remained ever palpable. The remnants of Her dark influence echoes through the shadows, continuing to cast doubt and dread into the hearts of those who say Her name.
Interpreted Appearances
It is said that when not in Her true form, The Obsidian Empress frequently manifests as one of her sacred animals: a slender, black horse, a horned owl, or a raven with a quiet caw. She hides in the shadows, silently watching people go about their day-to-day lives, only making Her presence known to those She deems worthy of Her attention.
Dogma
From the heart of the void, She reigns. She is the embodiment of the absence of light, the clouds that block the sun, the silent command that bends the will of the world, and the whisper that shapes the destinies of mortals. She does not seek to destroy, but to control. For in control lies true power, the exquisite dance between chaos and order. Those who submit to Her darkness find not annihilation, but a profound, chilling strength. They learn to wield the night, to command the very fabric of reality, to become instruments of Her will. Her influence is not a curse, but a transformation, a metamorphosis into something more powerful, more absolute, more… Her. Embrace the darkness, and become its master.
