Tyr: Master of Crafts

Tyr (a.k.a. The Master of Crafts)

Tyr and Tirzaan had a close relationship far back in the depths of time, before the Lord of Madness was born, for they were both inquisitive and cunning, and loved works of labor. Because of this, many of Tyr’s Sylvar were swayed by Tirzaan’s words in the Sundering of the Powers, but Tyr himself had no desire for mastery over people, but instead mastery of craft. He fashioned the world alongside Eires and Ulmir, and the Dwarves are his children. He is a master craftsman and delights in all works of skill and handmade items, the smallest as much as the greatest. His children share his love of skill, and he taught them much in the depths of time. Tirzaan tried very hard to gain Tyr’s allegiance, and felt very snubbed by his friend’s ‘betrayal’, growing to hate him more than any of the Powers, save Eires whose position he covets, and Tark whom he fears. Tyr invented smithing and craftswork, and does not care for Elves, as they stole these arts from his children without giving them credit. This is not outright hostility, but it can turn into hostility towards specific Elves when they do not give him or his children their proper credit.   Tyr’s worshippers do not build temples as described by other gods, but instead have hallowed forges, where they worship by creating works of art. Any bit of craftsmanship becomes an act of worship to a follower of Tyr, but these works, created in this hallowed forge are special acts of devotion, imbued with all of the creator’s skill. A utilitarian weapon becomes a legendary item, created for beauty as much as utility, and sometimes even filled with magic by Tyr himself. High priests of Tyr are master craftsmen first and religious figures second. In the hands of a devout follower, the craftsman’s tools and trade become a process of meditation and prayer instead of work.
