Naien: The Weeping Lady

Naien (a.k.a. The Weeping Lady)

Naien is the Sister of Feantur and Ayluin, and she dwells alone in a small house west of west, with windows looking outward from the walls of the world. She is acquainted with grief, and mourns for every wound that has been suffered in the marring of Tirzaan. Her wails were great during the Rending that they could be heard above all else, and her tears soaked the Earth with an unending rain that raised the seas covering several miles of land for the rest of eternity. She weeps not for herself, but for all those who are hurting and wronged, and those who listen to her learn pity and enduring hope. She goes seldom to the City of Light where all is glad, but goes rather to the Silent Halls, which are near her own. All those who wait there cry out to her, for she brings strength to the spirit and turns sorrow to wisdom. She has compassion for all, no matter what race or alignment, even for the Sylvar of Tirzaan, who have caused so much suffering. For she weeps for their twisting of mind, and the loss of her fellow spirits. Nonetheless, she does not put them above those they harm, and will always take the side of good and right. She does not interfere, but she will offer guidance and wisdom, and will sometimes take a case before her fellow Powers to plead one of them to help.   Naian is often prayed to, but seldom worshipped singularly. As such, there is always a shrine to her in every city, town, or village, and these are often visited for the world is full of suffering. In some rare cases, those who have felt nothing but sorrow in their lives will dedicate their lives to her, remaining at their local shrine to pray and offer counsel to others seeking help. These counsellors dress in grey and black, and often cover their tear stained faces with a thin veil, as if they were mourners.

Tenets of Faith

The world is full of sorrow, and only the hard of heart are unmoved.   Be open to the suffering of others, offering encouragement and understanding.   Weep for the suffering of others, not for yourself.   The world begets suffering: suffering begets wisdom; wisdom begets understanding; understanding begets pity.
