Feirth: Lady of the Woods

Feirth (a.k.a. The Lady of the Woods)

Feirth is the sister of Taron and the spouse of Tark, and has much in common with both of them. She is lithe and fleetfooted, able to keep up even with her brother, and she loves the forests of her husband. Her special favorites are the deer of the forest, and they follow her wherever she goes, but she can outrun them, faster than an arrow in the wind. Unlike her husband and brother, she delights in dancing barefoot on lawns of never fading green in the Immortal Realm, hair the color of buckskin flying free in the wind. She is the protector of deer, but does not begrudge the hunter, for she knows the natural order. Only in sacred areas, or when the attack is against the chosen deer in her train, does she retaliate with anger. She cares for orphans and lost souls, tending to their hurts and giving them a place to rest. She goes not into cities and towns, but rather runs in the deep woods and forests, and occasionally in the fields, wherever the deer she loves roam.   As one of the lesser Powers, and one of field and wood, there are no established shrines or temples to Feirth in major cities. Rather, she is the patron of hunters, trappers, and other wanderers in the wild, making her popular among adventurers. There are shrines to her in hunting lodges and small villages, and every hunter sets aside a section of their forest as a sacred area for her. This is an area they may visit, but may not kill in. Any animal they chase into that area is considered marked by the Lady of the Woods and is spared. Some hunters who come across a lost faun roaming in the forest take it as a sign from the Lady, and care for the deer, raising it and caring for it for the rest of its life, or until it chooses to return to the woods. This is considered a blessing on the hunter from the Lady herself, and so long as the faun chooses to remain with the hunter he is considered blessed with good fortune, and will be guided on his hunt.
