Ayluin: The Dreamlord

Ayluin (a.k.a. The Dreamlord)

The younger brother of Feantur, Ayluin is the master of all visions and dreams. His gardens are in the west of the Immortal Realm, and they are fairer even than Eires’ palace. From his fountains event he Great Ones draw refreshment, and a mortal who drinks there will never need to drink again, nor would they receive joy from doing so, for after that draught all mortal food and drink would seem like ash. Any mortal who walks in his realm would find peace and healing while they are there, and the memory would sustain them through all their trials, but would also darken all beauty in the mortal realm. Ayluin loves all good creatures, and sends them refreshment through his Sylvar, who draw peaceful dreams from his fountains and deliver them to all good beings. Nightmares are the result of corrupted Sylvar who seek to intercept and twist the messages, and Ayluin fights a constant battle against them.   Ayluin is one of the lesser Powers, often invoked, but not so often worshipped. Some temples or shrines exist in places which were once plagued with nightmares or evil visions but are now under the protection of the Dream Master. They are fairly simple, often just one fountain with a few flowers around it. Worshippers throw small coins into the fountain in order to bribe the Sylvar to take their requests before Ayluin, and those who suffer from horrible nightmares or evil visions will drink of the blessed water in the hopes of tasting a bit of the refreshment of the Garden of the Great Ones.   Ayluin’s Sylvar are responsible for carrying dreams from his fountains to mortals. They carry these dreams in water jugs and pour the dreams into the sleeping minds of mortals. They are almost never seen outside of dreams, in which they can sometimes be found and communed with on rare occasions. They are silver-haired and silver-tongued, with voices like falling rain. They rarely stay in one place long, but are constantly delivering their dreams and returning to the Fountains of Rest for a new payload.

Tenets of Faith

Rest is important; only in true rest can we find refreshment and be renewed.   Dreams and Visions are never just coincidence, they are the gods’ way of speaking with us.   Be joyful like a springing fountain, refreshing as the falling spray, and still as the edges of the water below.   Rest is a gift of refreshment from the gods’ themselves. Do not squander it lightly.
