The World of Myth

In the ancient days of earth, before the dawn of the Dark Ages, there was a time when magic was as commonplace as fire or water. In those days, beings of magic lived in harmony with humans. This included Unicorns, Dragons, Elves, Dwarves, Centaurs, satyrs, Merfolk, Fey Folk, and sometimes Goblins though they weren't easily befriended.  Among these beings were the guardians of Magic itself; The Fox Drakes. They're dragon-like beings that grow no larger than a cat, and they were often mistaken as cats at a first glance. They don't breathe fire, though each have a connection to an element or virtue.  One day, a young sorcerer wanted to learn every secret there was about Magic, and his Guardian; the Guardian of Secrets in fact, was hesitant to give him these secrets. She warned him of the consequences, that harnessing all that magic instead of allowing it to flow would cause harm. He promised again and again he wouldn't abuse her secrets, only for her warnings to come true.  Magic became wild, causing the other elements to become unbalanced and lash out; the unicorns and even the Dragons began going rogue from the tainted magic, attacking travelers of all sorts. as Magic grew wild, Humans became fearful. They began hunting beings of Magic, which plunged the world into chaos.  In a last ditch effort to save Magic and those tied to it, the Fox Drakes came to a young elf, asking his aid in creating a home hidden away from man and to house Magic safely. The Elf agreed, and tied his life to this new world, so as long as Myth thrived, so would he. those of Magic began their exodus from Earth, only a few legends remaining to watch over Man, the Lycanthropes, the Kelpie, a few fey, some elves, and some merfolk. though even they were tainted by the soured magic over time, becoming darker versions of themselves and bringing forth Werewolves, Vampires, Banshees, and Sirens. The Guardian of Secrets remained behind as well, to guard the doorway to Myth and ensure the Magic wouldn't be abused again. And so fell the Golden Age, and Dawned the Dark Ages of Man, Myth living separate from Earth, becoming the religion of The Two Sisters; Gaia and Terra.
