The Basin Desert & the Fertile Lands WIP

Long ago, a group of humans had been cast out of their homes and travelled for decades trying to resettle somewhere new.

Eventually one of the gods took pity on them and erected a barrier around the mouth of a river, stemming it's flow and forcing an entire sea back into the ocean, raising the sea level for the rest of the world. However, here the humans were able to settle, and only a river was allowed to flow through the barrier, granting the humans much needed water. Their lands would be able to flourish, however at the expense of the world around it. One of the areas hit hard by this, was the mountainous region that had depended on that sea for its water supply. With it gone, those civilizations dwelling there quickly fell into ruin as the people fled. Centuries passed, and the once lush area became a desert after the water was no longer able to enter, as the mountains were far too high to allow proper formation of rain clouds.
