Ichabod

A ghastly Mystimon which is said to haunt orchards and pumpkin farms, particularly during the autumn months. It is described often as a floating and living black trench coat with a jack-o-lantern carved pumpkin for a head, with reddish-orange glowing eyes and mouth, and a violet aura.   It is named for a folk story of a noble man who long ago lost his head in a duel with another noble, and returned every year during the autumn months, headless and searching for his head. Whether or not this creature and the story are connected is up for debate.

They often appear around apple orchards and pumpkin farms, though some ginger farmers say they also appear around there. They can appear all over the world, however they seem localized to these specific areas.

Discovery

Doctor Ivan Sanderson first investigated reports of this creature in the Spring of 1342 2A, however never found any trace of the creature. He would return in the autumn of 1344 2A after receiving additional reports, and learning that the creature seems to only appear during the autumn months. He spent an excruciating amount of time out in the pumpkin farms of Southern Almahna. Days turned into weeks, and one night, just as he was about to give up the hunt entirely, just as he was packing away his things, he suddenly spotted a soft orange glow in the distance. At first he though, "Could be a Ghostar, those are common around here." But he decided to take a closer look anyway.   He grabbed his musket and slowly and quietly made his way in the direction of where he saw the glow. Just then what was one light turned into three. "Three Ghostars?" he thought.   He inched his way closer. . . Until finally he saw it. It was just as described! It was an animated floating black trench coat with a soft purplish aura surrounding it, and a jack-o-lantern carved pumpkin for a head, the eyes and mouth lit up as though by a lit flame. The famed Jack-O-Lantern monster was real!   He observed it for hours, taking notes in his note book feverishly. He would classify it as a new species of Mystimon, and would grab a name from the folk story of the man who lost his head and came back year after year looking for it: Ichabod.   "They are a rare sight indeed, but a terrifyingly real sight it is." he would write.   In additional observations in later years, he would eventually learn that Ichabod spawn from pumpkins in a pumpkin patch and the reason they are only seen in the autumn months is because they wither and die in about the same amount of time a pumpkin would off the vine.
