Blackarach

For some people, Blackarachs are the stuff of nightmares.   To be fair though, they are not a Mystimon you want to encounter living in your basement.   They are large arachnid Mystimon with eight long slender legs, jet black in colour, with a large red hourglass on the bottom of their abdomen, and eight black eyes. They are highly venomous, their venom capable of killing a man in mere hours. They are the definition of antisocial, so much so they even kill their mates!   This is the Mystimon that nearly killed Doctor Ivan Sanderson when he went to document them.

Discovery

From the notes of Doctor Ivan Sanderson.   "When first I observed these creatures, I had traveled to the home of a kindly young woman who had been terrified to find one living in her cellar. When I got down there, I found webbing stretched from one end of the room to the other, almost like a maze of trip lines. One wrong step would attract the spider that had created it. . . and one wrong step I had made, as my foot landed on the bottom step, it tugged on one line of webbing. Within seconds a large black mass pounced on me from above, and all went black. When I came to, I was being treated by the kind woman whose home it was. She had pulled me to safety by throwing bunches of garlic at it. 'Garlic,' she noted. 'It seems to not like garlic.' The woman's name was Aeriel Dawn. But she would soon become my wife, Mrs. Aeriel Sanderson. As for the Blackarach living in the cellar, she would eventually let the spider claim the home and move out."
