Choir of Feathers
The Choir of Feathers is known as a collection of artists and street performers. They have spread throughout the region of west Cafril and frequently display their acts at public festivals and in the courts of lesser nobility. Among their ranks are dancers, musicians, acrobats, and magicians.
From the outside, the Choir of Feathers appears to be simple performers, but the reality is much more lucrative. Their cover hides their true intentions as thieves, conmen, pickpockets, and burglars. Deep within the organization even exist well trained assassins and hitmen. They operate as fences in the local area and even blackmail some prominent figures to keep their true dealings in the dark.
Truly not malicious by nature, most members come from destitute backgrounds and use their talents to fend for and provide to those in need. They have a natural aversion to members of high society and tend to target nobles and wealthy citizens for their marks.
Structure
In some cities, there is a designated location for gatherings of its members. These buildings are normally overseen and tended to by a master referred to as the Showman of their location. These Showmen will help to establish individuals to perform at local functions and private parties.
Behind closed doors, the Showman is responsible for seeing that members adhere to certain rules set forth by the organization. They will fence stolen property and manage local relations with authority to maintain the livelihood of its members.
Unknown to all outsiders in the existence of the Grand Showman, the pinnacle leader of the organization. Anonymity is paramount and very few withing the group have access to their true identity.
Culture
The Choir of Feathers believes in free living and the opportunity of all to prosper. They distaste the rule of law that binds those to poverty and elevates some to positions of privilege. Their philosophy of no man is above the other shows in their constant strife for balancing the economic and political scales around them. Members that take advantage of those with less than enough are often dealt with to an extreme as an example. Never should one elevate themselves at the expense of those already in the lowest of circumstances.
Public Agenda
The Choir of Feathers promotes the arts and performance for the enjoyment of the masses. They wish to spread their influence in a way that creates opportunity for the common folk to attend and witness displays of beauty and wonderment.
Hidden Agenda
The ongoing goal of the Choir of Feathers is the redistribution of wealth and power to the people. Too many people of power continue to use their wealth and position to oppress the masses beneath them. Members of the organization actively target these individuals and re-allocate their belongings to others in need. People who continuously abuse their ability to live outside of the law of consequence and violate or hurt others may even find themselves quietly, or with public display, dispossessed of life.
Assets
Several cities are home to guild halls that range from taverns to gambling dens. These properties are collectively operated by the organization and help to fund its efforts to support the downtrodden community. They can also serve as safe houses or temporary lodging for members that are travelling or need to lay low for a while.
History
The Choir of Feathers began as a travelling troupe of circus performers and musicians. Over time, the organization began to lay roots as other talented individuals began to join. Since most members were from a past of poverty and hardship, the group began to use their abilities to acquire assistance for those in need. This naturally developed into more unsavory means and the performances became a cover for the more lucrative endeavors to achieve their goals.
