Voglung
Often referred to as the Regional animal of the Waugmala Region.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Imagine, if you will, if a 250 kg boulder suddenly came to life. A Voglung fits this description well. This enormous quadruped resembles a tortoise in shape. Its back, front paws, tail and even scalp all resemble the color & texture of the earth they call home. Meanwhile the underbelly and rest of the animal's skin is only a bit softer (like dry and rugged skin.) and is yellow in color.
A Voglung's head is round in shape with their eyes bulging outward on both sides. Its nasal cavity is flat and in the middle of its face. The mouth is wide and its chin becomes squared near the bottom. The top of the head is covered in the stone-like layer offering incredible defense.
The head is connected to the neck which can measure up to 2 metres.
The Voglung's body is simply a boulder with 4 limbs, a neck and a tail attached to it. The feet are short yet broad. Even the outside of each foot is covered in the stone-like layer down to the toes which are rounded and just as hard. They have 4 toes on each foot.
Finally, the tail is a surprisingly flexible member tipped with a heavy plate of the stone skin that may as well be a hammer.
Genetics and Reproduction
Voglung are oviparous animals and can lay up to 3 eggs in a single cycle. Apparently, it is rare for more than one Voglung to survive past infancy.
When a female Voglung is ready to lay her eggs, they will create a nest by trampling the earth with their tail until sizable ditch has been made. Next, they will use their front legs to stomp down on the ground to smooth out the hole. Next, the eggs are placed within this ditch and covered with dirt until they hatch.
Voglung eggs are known to be incredibly sturdy much like, you guessed it, a rock.
Growth Rate & Stages
It is still unclear how and what a Voglung's growth rate really is. They tend to stick together and rarely make long trips preferring to stay in one spot until their food is depleted.
Ecology and Habitats
Voglung are only found in the mountains of the Waugmala Region. They inhabit Mount Sol Somnum but a few sightings of Voglung have been made on the Sol Mountain range.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Voglung are one of the few Terranian species that consume minerals as their primary source of food. It may be because of this that they don't have any teeth. Instead, they they crush the earth using their feet, tail or sometimes even their head and then grab the chunks and swallow them whole.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Found exclusively in the Waugmala Region.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Voglung have been observed to use vibrations felt through the earth to identify other organisms. It is believed that their sense of sight and smell may be sub-part to other animals.
Scientific Name
Landbound
Lifespan
Believed to be around 100 years.
Average Height
2 m.
Average Weight
250 Kg.
Average Length
(From head to tail) 5 m.
Average Physique
Voglung tend to sleep with their feet curled under their belly and then rap their head and tail around one side of their body. From certain angles, their are indistinguishable from any bolder.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Voglung have two distinct layers of skin. The first is the incredibly thick and though stone-like layer found on the backside of the animal. This layer is the same orange color as the earth of Mount Sol Somnum. Their underneath has a matted yellow color. Finally, their eyes are whole black with a touch of amber in the sunlight.
