Grouchling
Rather simple creatures on their own but treacherous in numbers.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A Grouchling shares a number of resemblances to a Humans child: their height, weight, proportions even down to intelligence. Their heads are uncomfortably wide and narrow with their mouth spanning the entire width of their face. The eyes and nose align horizontally across the face as well. Their ears are long and pointed and they are able to move them independently much like a cat.
Their hands are described as deformed with short thumbs and three long fingers with a final fourth short finger on the opposite end of the hand. Their feet only have three big toes. Their bodies are covered in a thin coat of fur usually in a burgundy color, though some have been observed having a dark mauve color instead.
Genetics and Reproduction
It is believed reproduce just like any mammal but, due to the mutations the species has gone through in order to become what is is now, most of the organs have become something unrecognizable much like any other monster created from mutations.
Growth Rate & Stages
While it has yet to be proven, it is believed that Grouchlings have a rapid growth rate. No one has ever seen what you could consider a child or infant Grouchling.
Ecology and Habitats
Grouchlings came into the world during the war. At the time, they followed the commands of other authoritarian monsters. In the current year, Grouchlings can be spotted all over Terra. Their numbers have decreased significantly, however, Grouchlings tend to live in packs of 5 to 10.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Grouchlings are omnivores and will eat next to anything to survive. Feeding seems to be their primary motivation as if they can never be satisfied after eating any amount of food. This is one of the reasons for their names.
Additional Information
Social Structure
In a group of Grouchlings, chaos reigns supreme. If they have a leader, it is impossible to distinguish from the rest. Even among this chaos, if a threat or prey presents itself, Grouchlings come together frighteningly quickly and attack as pack.
However, it is often possible to see Grouchlings living among other groups of monsters. The most common is referred to as their older cousins; the Malisurne. Perhaps due to a innate sense of survival, the Grouchling seem to have no problem following orders given to them by larger and stronger monsters such as the Malisurne. (Though in the case of the Malisurne, intelligence is not their strong-suit either.)
Facial characteristics
These monsters have bright yellow and sometimes green eyes that glow in the dark. Their teeth are sharp especially their canines.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Found and considered unwanted pests all over Terra.
Average Intelligence
Grouchlings are not considered intelligent and seem to act according to instincts more than anything. That being said, they are capable of constructing and wielding weapons. Living in the wilderness, these weapons are usually made from wood but can feature enhancements using stones or animal parts such as teeth and bones.
