Corocilous

Technically more animal than plant, this monster is a mutation originating from the war.

Basic Information

Anatomy

When dormant, it greatly resembles a large flower, just not in bloom. It's head is made up of five petal-looking membranes. It usually has a dark purple color on the outside while the inside share the same color and texture as an animal's mouth, complete with a large cylindrical tongue where a pistil would be. The mouth is almost always covered in a light yellow mucus which has been discovered to be corrosive. This creature does not have any eyes.   Where the head connects to its stem or neck, a second layer of a membrane resembling green leaves are visible and must act as a protection. They have long slender necks connecting the head to a small but bulbous body where most of it's organs are. This body is typically connected to four slender tentacles that can reach a length of around 3 meters each. In a relaxed position, they will roll these 'arms' into spirals. Lastly, beneath the body, another set of 20 to 30 smaller tentacles are used as feet in order to move around. The entire portion of the creature beneath the head is a vivid green perfect for camouflage deep within the forest.

Genetics and Reproduction

It has never been observed to reproduce. The best accepted theory is that they must perform their reproductive cycle in he same manner as plants instead of animal.

Growth Rate & Stages

While varying sizes have been encountered, it is unclear if these are different stages or simply an individual's genetic makeup. Every one behaves exactly the same.

Ecology and Habitats

They inhabit forest and densely wooded areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Omnivore. It will eat animals, (small and large) insects and fruits that have fallen to the ground. IT will either grab its food directly with its head or use its many vine-like appendages and bring it to its mouth where the corrosive mucus will break down whatever it grabbed until the nutrients can be absorbed from within. If something is too big to fit directly into its mouth, it can spit the mucus to break it down before grabbing smaller pieces to eat. It can also been observed bathing in the sunlight, possibly perform a type of photosynthesis.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Thankfully, they appear to be quite solitary.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to a lack of eyes or any visionary organs, it is believe these creatures navigate primarily by using sound and perhaps touch. Due to its innate ability to spread a powerful stench meant to disable their prey, no one is sure if it has a sense of smell. Despite its lack of senses, this monster should not be taken lightly as it has a tendency to move quietly and strike with amazing precision.
