Cham's Tower
Cham's Tower, while standing on Earthein soil, belongs to the people of Cloudiaon. It provides the way to their kingdom, and from it, and stands as a historical marker of when Cloudiaon was founded.
Purpose / Function
Cham's Tower is the only way to get to and from Cloudiaon. It reaches up to the sky kingdom, standing just a little taller than the gate to the capital city.
Entries
There are two entries: an open archway at the foot of the tower, a few steps from the stairs, and another one at the top, a step up from the base of the cloud where the capital stands. A few small openings meant to serve as windows stand every few stories, giving little bits of light.
Sensory & Appearance
When you first enter, a earthy smell fills your nose, packed dirt and a bit of dust. When you climb, you can hear the occasional creak from the wooden steps. A musty smell floats towards you the higher you go, before the air becomes a little more chilly, thinner as well. Aside from trouble breathing from the tall climb, the thinness of the air makes it all the more difficult, some fainting on the stairs as a result. As you climb, no matter which level you are on, some of the leaves permanently embedded in the wall will brush you as you pass by them, the rough stone right underneath them.
Denizens
A few Cloudiaon guards stand at the entrance and exit of the tower to ensure whoever enters and leaves is permitted to do so.
Contents & Furnishings
At the top of the tower, on a ledge before stepping onto the clouds, are a linning of boots specially made for those to walk on the clouds. The Cloudiaons naturally can walk on the clouds, but anyone from Earthein or Fountania are too heavy and need the boots to walk. They just can't fall over...
Hazards & Traps
The stairs are just wide enough for two people to go up or down, but there is no stair rail. No one has ever fallen from it, at least, not at a considerable height, but every person climbing is wary of their steps.
Architecture
The tower is a mix of stone bricks and a resilient vine plant. Stairs go around the walls on the inside of the tower, curling with the shape of the tower.
History
A man named Cham heard of a myth that giants lived in the clouds above, so he set about to make a tower to find out if there were. He began building one, but every time he starts, plants come out of the ground and tear it down. After some struggling with the plants, he figured out a way to use them to his advantage, making the tower stronger than ever. He climbed the tower and came down after a few days, but refused to tell what he saw. He did, however, discover a way for people to live up in the clouds...
