Chaotic War

Out in Japan near the coast, having a day out on a pleasure cruise. Navy boats were out for practice while they enjoyed the weather and the breeze that came blowing through as they rode the open waters. Markus was asked by one of the Japanese sailor's,  "Have you ever been to Japan before?" "Yes, I have once before..." Markus trailed off, in a somber tone. "During my last visit, I once had control of the JAF..." "Really, very impressive Mr. Alistar." The sailor replied, "It was nothing much, but I did sit in the General's chair and stamped a few bank invoices..."   They were on the return to harbour, along the way, three Japanese submarines surfaced. They had a sort of flag out at the end of the submarine, Markus could not tell which flag it was; but they let out some of their men, who went to retrieve the flags. There was a strong wave that crashed on the side of one of the submarines washing one of their men off, but he was soon rescued. The crew of the submarine were soaked but were laughing about the incident. Markus turned to Ghan, a shipwright that owned the cruiser they were riding on, "Man, those Japanese sailors were insane!" "Yeah! It reminded me of a graphic novel from childhood..." Ghan replied with a hearty laugh.   The crew member that fell off was not Japanese, unlike the rest of his comrades, not even Asian for that matter. He looked American. Markus never thought much of it since one of the other crew member's Japanese helped him up and below deck. As we turned around, we sped back to the docks, weaving through and between plenty of ships, but the thing was as we passed each ship, they looked as if they were damaged, there was glack moke curdling and billowing from the decks. None of the ships were close enough to tell what happened to them.   As Markus and Ghan made their way ashore, Markus raced over to an army dressed soldier, at least that was what he thought; the soldier had a mini-scope and was armed. Markus began to ask the soldier about the carnage in the bay. "Any idea what happened out there?" "You mean, those in flames?" the soldier confirmed, "Yes, I think you should warn your superior's!" Markus urged the soldier. "Oh, yes for sure sir, right away sir!: the soldier snapped out of his shock. Then the soldier ran off about a 100 meters away from Markus and Ghan. Through a grenade or small explosive into a building killing two men. He lifted his gun emptying bullets in guards that were to the far left of Markus and Ghan. He dropped his gun, it was empty, and headed through a gate throwing another explosive to the left of the outside of the same gate. Then Markus picked up one of the fallen men's gun's and headed after the soldier.   Markus felt confident with the gun in hand, as if he had done this before. Markus shot the soldier down, and he was done for. Markus turned and faced the gate peering inside the little boarding camp by the docks, it was not so little though. It was almost the actual size of an army barracks, fully equipped as if it were a training camp; but with real guns. The site had plenty of earth between the gate and the shore, it started to get darker, as men began appearing and standing in formation. They crept cautiously toward the dark. They could see blue flame in the distant dark and orange bursts of flame from mortar fire.   Some groups of people, poorly dressed as soldiers, were running back towards the gates. They were only distractions but a couple seconds after they retreated, something that looked like an Inferno Cannons peered through the dark, and quick bursts of blue flame came from something resembling Dragon Tanks. They lit up the sky giving luminescence to platoons of men, and woman all who were soldiers that stood opposing us. Markus rattled the gun letting bullets fly, like the others were on the opposing forces; shooting down a couple of soldiers that stood the closest to Markus and his crew.   Markus was able to find some grenades and through them into the opposing force. Ghan showed up throwing an explosive at the forces, and he said to Markus,  "I too controlled the Japanese Army; even stamped a few invoices too. It goes to show that they always do this to their visitors."   Once the Inferno Tanks fired, Ghan and Markus began running towards the gate. There were a few shells that landed nearby to both Markus' right and left. For a moment Markus saw Ghan just in front of him, and off to the left  facing the force and the Inferno Tanks, watching the shells until the last moment and jumping out of the way. Markus turned to do the same, it worked. "Watch them until the last moment!" Called Ghan's voice, so Markus continued the pattern. In no time they were on the other side of the gate. Once there Markus lost track of where Ghan had went, but just then Helena, who was much older now since the last time Markus saw her, ran by him. Markus followed her and called out, "Hey, Helena! Wait up!" Once Markus caught up they were two streets beyond the gate.   Heading through a residential yard onto the third street from the Gate of the Barrracks entrance. Markus was beside Helena as they passed the next house.  "I am going to be alone forever," with tears pouring down her face, Helena looked up to Markus. "No you will not, because you will always have me." Markus reassured Helena by placing his trigger hand on her shoulder. Helena seemed to calm down but still did not seem to hear all of Markus' words. Helena wiped the tears from her face and ran off into the bundle of trees to a bench, secluded and hidden. Helena sat on the bench, which was facing Markus and in the tiny clearing, Markus stood in front of Helena and she looked up at his face and with flooded eyes full of tears she smiled at Markus and then he gave Helena a kiss on her forehead. "God bless you my dearest, there are better ways to live, just keep hope." This seemed to calm Helena's mind and carry her soul to rest. "Markus... don't ever leave me..." Helena seemed to drift into sleep for a moment as Markus turned to find the end of the field of battle there was a white flag being waived in their direction, it was the enemy general surrendering...
