L'école Classique
While there is much to be said for the Italian style's focus on movement and precision with a rapier. The classicists say that it doesn't go far enough and that attacking straight towards your opponent is the way to a quick death. They favour instead to make attacks from unexpected and oblique angles. A swordsman of the Classical style will focus on gaining better position in combat and using their environment to their advantage, whether that is through higher ground in the form of a well place table or easier movement from swinging on a chandelier.
The Classical style is taught by Enzo Poulin at his school on the south side of Paris. While a pacifist Poulin sees no reason why a man or a woman should not be able to defend themselves. His school teaches that to kill out of pleasure or malice is a sin, that a fight should only end in death if absolutely necessary and that, in an age of enlightenment, men should aim to resolve their conflicts peacefully.
With a focus on the classics of antiquity from Homer's Iliad to Herodotus' histories Poulin shows his students how time and again man has evolved above his baser natures.
