Rougarou | 26 RP
Rougarous are an exceptionally rare species. Their origins are not well known or understood by others, let alone even in their own communities. Often mistaken as werewolves or wolves, Rougarou are forced to live in secluded communities far from society. From what is assumed, Rougarou are the result of the union with canine-like aberrations and native outsiders. Their appearances in history succeed Lupins.
Physical Description: Anthropomorphic wolves bearing tails and coat patterns found in any wolf species. Their wolf forms bear the same markings and colors as their humanoid form bears. Rougarou are hermaphrodites with the ability for producing offspring asexually.
Society: Due to being secluded and such rare occurring individuals, Rougarou society is typically a small village if not a few homes built from a collection of a singular family or up to five families. These societies are made up of a few elders, adults and handfuls of young. Being extremely protective of their families and friends, Rougarou prefer to fight for what they hold dear rather than run. Majority of Rougarou are found in swamps and marshes, but they can be found in other locations over the mainland. Their lifestyles are a mixture of nomadic and stationary, typically hosting their families in a secluded area for the dry season then travel during wet seasons. Plenty of Rougarous live druidic or shaman lifestyles. Rougarous do not believe in mating with others outside of their species; for those that manage to, they are often outcasted by family.
Rougarou wolf forms are typically used when it's necessary to traverse through humanoid lands, disguising themselves as wolf packs as well as for hunting purposes. Rougarou families may also prefer this form when they're migrating during wet seasons, finding this form easier to traverse over difficult lands and stay more alert. Additionally, Some Rougarous may prefer to fight in their wolf forms. Finally, some Rougarou can be ashamed of their wolf forms-- seeing them as a flaw or some kind of curse preventing them from joining other species' societies.
Rougarous may find themselves in positions where they cannot find a mate or family to join. These situations vary from times of high hunting rates (when other humanoids or supernatural monsters hunt their kind in mass), supernatural disasters, pandemics, or similar dire situations. In such dire situations, a Rougarou may produce a small litter (3-4 pups) through a process similar to parthenogenesis. This process is extremely taxing on the Rougarou, often demanding more nutrients and plenty of rest. If a Rougarou chooses this method of reproduction, it is very unlikely they'll decide to do it more than one to two times in their lifetime, as it considerably puts a risk on their health and may cut their lifespan short due to how taxing the process is. The pups created in this way are essentially genetic clones of their parent, but they hold their own personalities and emotional differences (such as identical siblings in humans appearing the same but being their own persons). Socially, such individuals are not respected as much as their non-clone counterparts. Typically, they are viewed as 'copies' rather than individuals. Majority of Rougarou that are produced in this way find it difficult to bond with others, usually ending up as outcasts if the truth of their origin is discovered. This social conflict even falls onto identical twins who were produced from two parents.
Is Oscine, any Rougarous that happened upon that place were outcasts of their own species or criminals caught by kingdoms that did not want to host such a beast in their own cells. Some believe killing a werewolf in their kingdom is an invitation for that creature's pack to come attack, which would be one reason as to why they cast Rougarou away to Oscine's prison in the past. They were often killed on the island, and it is very unlikely for any survivors of this species to exist (whether old or families that managed to occur). Any survivors that live within the city may be confused for Lupin, even Rougarous may confuse themselves as such since they likely are raised on the notion they are a Lupin.
Relations: Rougarous are often mistaken for werewolves and hunted down as such. Majority of other races are going to view them as evil monsters. Lupins are one of the few species that recognize Rougarous for what they are. Though, Lupins and Rougarou even on this respect often do not get along due to long held grudges between their people.
Alignment and Religion: Due to generally upholding trustworthy, protective and strict societies, Rougarou lean towards lawful then good aligned. Evil is rare and often seen in outcasts. Rougarou follow as many of the stars as they can, following the good alterations of them. Some individuals may be drawn to a singular star, often using it as a way to improve on the most outstanding 'flaw' they may relate to that star.
Adventurers: Rougarous that adventurer are typically outcasts, have no family or have a wanderlust attitude. Some will adventure out of necessity, finding this lifestyle is suited for the odd and unusual types of society.
Names: Rougarous do not have a strict naming tradition. Their names are typically influenced by other species.
