Enchanting
The crafting of magic items is known as enchanting. It involves the expense of some energy source, which is imbued into an item by the Enchanter. Enchantments can have a huge amount of various effects and the effects of the enchantment are not set. Think with your DM what could make for a cool enchantment, browse existing magic items or scroll through the list below.
To perform an enchantment you will need:
- An item to enchant that correspons to your enchantment type
- A source of magic to fuel the enchanting with. This can be a lot of consecutive days expending spell slots or the usage of resources imbued with magic such as magic ore, lyrium, aria or soul gems.
- To make Arcana(Spellcasting Ability) checks for multiple times.
- An essence of corresponding type/element. In case a particular spell is placed into an item, knowing the spell yourself and using a spell scroll of it can replace the essence.
Types of essences
An essence is attuned to a particular type. Apart from a particular type, the essences come in varieties ranging from lesser, normal to greater. Some essences obtained from creatures may also correspond to multiple types, allowing it to be used as multiple types or allowing combinations. A rule of thumb:- Uncommon magic items require at least a Lesser Essence but often a normal one
- Rare magic items require a Normal Essence or multiple of them
- Very rare magic items require Greater Essence or even multiple of them
- Legendary magic items require multiple Greater Essences or Mythical Essences
