In 2458, Tzim-Sha assembled a task unit to track down an escaped scientist. He traced the scientist to Earth and then, specifically, to a military base near the human settlement of Dulce, New Mexico. When the Stenza arrived in early 2459, they reportedly showed no mercy, and approximately fifty people were killed (many were described by human authorities as having their jaws broken open, and missing at least one tooth). The scientist was recaptured.
Humans recount the event as having been one of numerous results of UFO crashes in the Southwestern United States, and dates vary somewhat between the late 1970s and the 1990s, but in broad strokes their accounts go thusly:
All went relatively well until 1973, when the government discovered that thousands of persons who were not on the aliens’ list were being abducted. The resulting tensions led to an altercation in 1978 or 1979. The aliens held and then killed 44 top scientists as well as a number of Delta force troops who had tried to free them. Ever since, frantic efforts, of which the Strategic Defense Initiative (“Star Wars”) is the most visible manifestation, have been made to develop a defense against the extraterrestrials, who are busy putting implants into abductees (as many as one in 10 Americans) to control their behavior. At some time in the near future, these people will be used for some unknown, apparently sinister alien purpose. In certain conspiratorial circles, humans hold that Dulce base and perhaps one or two others are, as a result, partially or completely under alien control. In actuality, the Stenza abandoned the base with the scientist after everything had concluded, as the base held no advantage for them and Earth itself already had its purpose (see Leadership Challenge). Tzim-Sha had assembled the task unit himself after tracing the scientist's general escape route to Earth (a well-kept Stenza secret) and acted both to recapture the scientist and to work to keep Earth under wraps. With his command of Earthly languages and his teammates' ability to act efficiently, they further traced the scientist to the base outside of Dulce, New Mexico, and proceeded to tear through witnesses. Despite the humans' best efforts to defend themselves, dozens were killed during the Stenza's effort to recapture the alien scientist.
