Ancient Asteroid Impact
While a number of asteroids have impacted Mudewei over the course of its development, including two which led to the formation of the moons and contributed significantly to the planet's current tilt and spin, the one that appears to be referenced in Stenza oral histories is the one that led to the formation of the crater lake called the Ice Flats. However, it is known that this impact took place between fifty and seventy million years in the past, rather than billions (as would be the case for, say, the asteroids that led to the formation of the moons), and led to the extinction of most life on the planet at the time.
This particular asteroid is known as Ḍæṣùlî, or "Bringer of Winter", as it set the planet's tilt to its current point, caused an impact winter, and (in Stenza mythology, at least) is intimately connected with the Snow Warrior.

Ooo this is really interesting. I like the description of the lasting impact of what happened, and that the impact is spread over thousands of years.
