Obsidian
A natural -- and extremely common -- material found in the mountains. Valued for its use in making weapons, specifically to use against witches.
Manifestation
Obsidian -- known to the world as mountain glass -- has the unique property of nullifying human magics. A witch stabbed with a knife of mountain glass will be unable to channel magic until the knife is removed, and an active magical array can only be shut down by slicing through the lines with a mountain glass blade. This is so well-known that another name for an obsidian blade is "witchkiller" or "witchkilling knife."
It's also somewhat toxic to human beings; overexposure or long-term exposure to obsidian can lead to a condition known as glass fever.

Obsidian is also the medium of transmission for something called the Wave, an unnatural phenomenon linked to both spirits and glass fever.
Localization
Mountain glass is really only found with any frequency within the mountains themselves. Outside the mountains, it exists only when imported from the mountains.
