Aarakocra

"You people of the earth live in boxes. You sleep under stone roofs that block the stars. You walk on roads someone else paved. How do you breathe without the wind in your lungs? I would rather die in a storm than live in a box."
— Kree, Cloud-Chaser of the High Spire

Origins: The Great Gale

Aaracockra are not native to the soil of Cruinlagh, instead they are refugees of the sky.
  • The Planar Castaways: Their oral history speaks of The Great Gale, a cataclysmic event centuries ago that swept their ancestors from the Elemental Plane of Air and stranded them on the Material Plane.
  • The Eternal Search: Many believe that if they fly high enough, or find the perfect storm, they might catch an updraft that leads back home.

Cultural Values: The Urgency of Now

Their lifespan is notoriously short (usually only 30-40 years). This radically alters their worldview compared to an Elf or Dwarf.

  • No Time for Grudges: Aaracockra do not procrastinate. They love fiercely, fight quickly, and forgive immediately. Holding a grudge is a waste of precious minutes. If they are angry at you, they will scream at you now, and buy you a drink ten minutes later.

  •
  • Claustrophobia: Confinement is not just uncomfortable; it is spiritual death. Prisons, caves, and small rooms are sources of immense psychological distress.
