Old Silas

Description

Silas is the fixture of Thistlewick. He is a man carved from dried driftwood -- thin, weathered, and tough. He wears a faded, moth-eaten military coat with the brass buttons polished to a shine, despite the heat. His eyes are milky with cataracts, leading many to believe he is blind. He is not.
He is almost never seen standing. He occupies the "Captain’s Chair", a high-backed rocker with a flattened cushion that sits at the perfect vantage point to see the river, the road, and the store entrance simultaneously.

Personality & Mannerisms

Silas speaks slowly, with a gravelly drawl that demands patience. He is a master of the "tactical pause" --stopping in the middle of a sentence to stare at a bird or pack his pipe, forcing the listener to wait. He is protective of Thistlewick to the point of paranoia, but covers it with the veneer of a confused old man.
Role: Senior Watchman / The "Town Greeter"
Age: 80+ (Claims to be 102)
Quirk: Refers to people by the type of boots they are wearing.
