Realm of the High Thistles

The Realm of the High Thistles is a kingdom predominantly inhabited by halflings, with a few other humanoids. Under the benevolent rule of the Merry King, who resides in the grand Thistlekeep with his orders of knights serving as his elite guard. The land, blessed with a favorable climate and fertile soil, is dotted with numerous farms that sustain the kingdom and most of the people work the land.

The sprawling island is surrounded by smaller isles near its shores. The terrain is mostly flat, punctuated by gentle hills that add to the scenic beauty of the landscape. The kingdom is renowned for its lively festivals, where the air is filled with merriment, feasting, and the thrilling spectacle of jousting tournaments or those brave enough to partake in the melee.

 

The society is structured along feudal lines, with Halfling knights, mounted on ponies and accompanied by large dogs and goats, embodying the chivalric spirit of the realm. This vibrant and dynamic kingdom is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry and communal harmony of its inhabitants.

 

Important Cities and Locations

Thistlekeep ("Seat of the Merry King")
  • Location: Windemere on it's north coast.
  • Description: A large stone castle surrounded by villages of simple wooden structures with thatched roofs and the occassional stone building. The castle is build on a steep cliff next to the ocean with a narrow path leading to the gates.
  • Key Features: Thistlekeep, a large stone castle build next to a cliff. The Strongheart Stables. The Great Market.
  • Cultural Significance: Political, economic, and administrative capital of Realm of the High Thistles.
Barleyfield ("The Endless Fields")
  • Location: the center of the island of Windemere.
  • Description: A collection of farms and villages amid large fields of wheat, barley and corn. There are festival grounds for a great feasts and fairs.
  • Key Features: The Great Fairgrounds. Fielder Market. The Dog Kennels.
  • Cultural Significance: Bread basket of the country, most peasants live here and many festivals.
