Last Hope
A frozen town in the remote icy region of the Winterlands. The permafrost is thick, snow can be as high as a man's chest, the sea around the town is frozen solid the year round and the houses are covered in frost and icicles.
In the center of town is a burning coal mine, called the Devil's Eye, which makes the temperature manageable. An innovative system of pipes moves the heat around town so the buildings are heated throughout the year or the inhabitants would freeze to death. Going outside of town from the protective heat of the Devil's Eye quickly results in frostbite, hypothermia or death.
