Sheriff Loyal Ruel (a.k.a. The Pale Protector)
"It's easy for a punk like you to criticize, but my job is to keep the peace." Loyal to Malopher, while holding him up.The (former) Sheriff of Bend River. An Aasimar paladin of the Dawn Warrior. The party first met him in Bend River, and cooporated (somewhat) with him to deduce the murder of the town Blacksmith, Jenore. Originally hesitant to get too involved, the party's actions inspired him to help take down Kelios Kostas, who was trying to take over the town's water supply. He was killed by Kostas' paid hit men, but not before exposing Kostas as the culprit for the Blacksmith's murders, as well as the corrupt dealings he had in town.

- 120 - 126 F.E. lived job to job, with no true magical prowess, unable to retain work for long.
- 127 F.E. Given a second chance by Kostas, who sent him to finish schooling in Settledusk.
- 129 F.E. Returned to Bend River as a Sheriff, having honed his skills at the Dawn Warrior church.
- 130 F.E. Fought alongside the party, was killed by Kostas' assassins.
Gender Identity
Loyal has never given much thought to his gender presentation or identity. To him being seen as male is not something he's ever had to scrutinize.
Sexuality
If Kostas scrutinized his sexuality or even considered what he likes romantically, he'd probably think he was asexual and aromantic. In truth he's demisexual and would be pan-romantic if given the opportunity.
Education
Raised in a Peschaniko Dawn Warrior church, originally to be trained as a warrior. Made to travel to Alloyus with him mentor, who died, leaving him and the other followers to fend for themselves.
Kostas paid for his training in Settledusk, where he studied and trained at the Dawn Warrior Church to become a Captain of a Guard.
Employment
Was employed as Bend River's sheriff for 1 year. Often took Kostas's advice.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Finished his first and second catechism as a follower of the Dawn warrior. Chooses not to undergo the Denial or the Sacrifice as he has no ambitions of joining the clergy.
Intellectual Characteristics
Deep down he's laden with anxiety, unwilling or unable to cause too many waves or ask too many questions. He is not an inquisitive person in any capacity. However he is devoted to doing things correctly the first time, and generally will do the right thing, as long as doing so doesn't bring too much discord or harm.
He is slow to anger, but tends to run hot when people call him a coward or a simpleton.

Order is to be maintained at all cost. Better to cause the least harm than risk doing something that backfires.

Motivation
He wishes to pay Kostas back for his kindness, sponsoring his training in Settledusk. In addition he wishes to ensure everywhere he goes he leaves it a bit more orderly than he found it. As such, he turned down a lucrative position in Settledusk as a manor's guard and instead went to Bend River to provide the people with a sense of security.
