The Shroud

The realm of Moorod is divided not only horizontally, between the various political and geological boundaries, but also vertically, with the mysterious Shroud. The entire history and happenings of the peoples and nations of Moorod occur on only the flat surfaces of massive block-shaped stone megastructure, the tops that jut out of the dense mists. Effectively, the Shroud splits the Room into two, with the higher region that the people live in and reside, and then whatever lies below the great fog. Indeed, the people of Moorod are indifferent to what lies below the Shroud, though many dare to wonder what is below it? Are there unclaimed lands and peoples on the lowest levels? Or is it merely and endless drop, one that goes on forever and ever? Though a few have attempted to explore it, none have ever returned, and being cast over "to the mists" is a great fear among all people of the Room. Yet many unknown truths and mysterious lie below their world, and those secrets hold great power, which could prove the decisive factor in saving Moorod...or destroying it.

Geography

The Shroud is, essentially, a giant fog/cloud. It is made up of water (and a few other) particles, and floats in about the middle of the entire Room. The massive location is spread out among the entire Room, almost like a great flat square, that suspends in the air. The Shroud is unique, and many have clearly noticed that there are magical properties to it. For example, it has existed for as long as the Room has, and predates any written history. It also does not dissipate or spread out into nothing, but rather follows a certain rising and falling pattern. In the mornings and at night, the Shroud lowers, sometimes more that other times, but it rises during the day, and the Shroud has a warm breeze that blows out from it. The Gliders Corps uses this warm air, and the specific warm air currents that flow from the Shroud, to allow their suits to glide seamlessly across the currents of the air. The sight of a blue-armored Nephinal Glider soaring just above the golden clouds of the Shroud at dusk is one of the most memorable sights one can have of the beautiful and alluring, but also mysterious, part of the Room.

Natural Resources

The single most important, and perhaps the only, resource of the Shroud is water. Water is a precious commodity, with only a few natural place to get it. The Blue Castle of Nephinal is built upon a great underground basin of water, and Ekal Lake provides water to Elvenia and the Scour Fields. The rest comes from the Shroud, as it is made of lots of water particles. Most nations use great bucket systems that lower into the misty region and return full of water, or have opening on their foundation that allow the fog to come in and settle into liquid form.
