Session 72: A Goat's Peaceful Transfer of Power

Nortle had her fortune told and exited the tent smelling of the same bog as Tertius did, but she did not elaborate about what she saw on the other side. Tertius told Levi that he was the three hags, one with each card and they gave him three small clay horseman figurines and was instructed to bury the white horseman at dawn, the red horseman at midday, and the black horseman at midnight.   Tertius and Levi devised a place for Baremin Barleyhare and his soldiers to wait with Obadiah Larsen, Snirk, The Fox, and Illevaere's sprout and they wait there for the signal to be given for them to ride in and attack.   Myohn went to the faerie trinket vendor and met a harengon from the Feywild who was selling the trinkets. They agreed on a trade, Myohn giving the harengon a potion and in return receiving a naturally formed hag stone that, supposedly, if the hole in the center is peeked through, one can see through the glamour of a fey.   Illevaere spoke with King Puc, and discovered that the druids told him that he would be made 'king' for a few days and what it would mean is that he would have people come and feed him and clean up after him. Puc states that he enjoys this new life of being king and being fed, though he is sad that it will end in a couple of days. Illevaere tries to explain what a king is and muses about what would happen if the goat refuses to abdicate his throne. This inspires the goat to consider remaining king and being hand fed for the rest of his life.   Levi got some wolfsbane from Illevaere and used it as an ingredient to bake cookies to potentially poison the werewolves, trying to mask the scent of the wolfsbane in the cooking. Illevaere also provided psychedelic mushrooms for the cookies to further disrupt chances of detecting the wolfsbane.   The group waited until after the carnival ended to look for Esme and the others. The ten-in-one tent was transformed after hours to be a cootch show, with some women dancing and offering other services for coin. They found Esme Kelmen with others around a fire. Esme asked Levi if his friends were 'in the know', and he said that they were and the group seemed to accept them. Esme made introductions around the fire.   Esme is with her husband, Arthur Kelman. Through conversation, they discovered that they are both local pig farmers and bring their pigs every year to the fair. Esme was attacked one night by a boar and Arthur went out and grabbed a stake and killed the beast and it transformed back into a person. Esme was infected, but Arthur was not, however, they are still able to 'manage things' between them and the city. Aisling recognized them as pig farmers who would come to the city market to sell their meat. They've been around for ages and over the years, some of their neighbor's animals have been slaughtered by wild animals, but their farm was always 'lucky' and never attacked.   Cailean and Ciorstag are both werewolves and they are the pair posing as guards. When the carnival comes to town, they usually pick up simple labor from the locals and usually the guard will be bribed or offered favors in order to overlook some of the less than scrupulous activities. It seems that Cailean and Ciorstag took out the guards who were stationed with the fair and are in the roles now themselves.   Malrius Harken and Naimh have been with the carnival for a while. Naimh is a cooch girl, but not a lycanthrope, but aware of those who are. She seems friendly with Malrius, who says that he has been with the carnival for five years now and prefers things to be discrete and isn't comfortable with all of the potential attention the werewolves seem to be making. He is a wererat and seems to have animosity toward Adreline, the snake lady, whom they reveal is actually a wereserpent. Due to his being a rat and her a serpent, they do not get along.   Callum is another werewolf who is immediately suspicious of Levi, stating that they are hunting a dark-skinned werebear, and here he is wearing a bear necklace. Malrius points out that he once slept with a woman with a cat tattoo, but that didn't make her a cat--it is just an asthetic choice. Callum continues to pester Levi, until he is called out by Cailean, who whole-heartedly believes Levi to be a werewolf. The exchange between them of eyes being met and Callum immediately lowering his head suspiciously pointed to Cailean's position of alpha here.   The party sits around and joins them in eating roast pig--the one that lost against Levi in the greased pig match--and have a relatively friendly exchange between the groups. Cailean states that he is fairly certain that the werebear is taken care of since a large group went after them. He says that they plan on remaining until the end of the fair when the Queen will be present and causing some chaos.   In the meantime, however, they have fun for tonight. Malrius states that he has caught and tied up Conor, who runs the meat on a stick booth. He says that he discovered that Conor was serving rat meat instead of his regular meat and so he brought him for the werewolves to have fun with. Adreline may also have a few people from the cootch show to bring. They usually only find people who won't be missed.   Illevaere begins to broach the idea of 'partying' with their mushroom laced cookies, though warning that they could result in poisoning in the trip is a bad one. Malrius is the only one who seems really interested, and he asks Illevaere if he can speak to them a few steps away from camp away from everyone and Illevaere agrees.
