Session 18: New Bridge, New Troubles

General Summary

The party continued along the dwarven tunnel until it finally opened up into a larger, more cavernous area. It looked as if an old dwarven fortress was ahead across a deep and dark chasm. However, the bridge that once spanned the chasm was crumbled, leaving the shortest gap between bridge portions at 40 feet in length. They saw deep below there was a faint glow, but it was too far down to get a good bearing of what was giving off the glow.   As the party weighed their options of how to cross or go around the chasm, they noticed movement in one of the old watchtowers on their side of the chasm. Moving in closer, the party were suddenly attacked by unknown creatures in the dark. The creatures looked to be humanoid, but with exaggerated, sylvan-like features including long pointed ears. The creatures hide well in the dark and made their attacks, seeming to flee from any light. When any of the creatures were slain, they would burst out in a brilliant light that would burn all but the metal they carried with them. This flash was so bright that it blinded those close enough to the creatures when they were slain.   During the battle, Dyfed was seen casting spells, giving insight that he was more than a simple farmer. Light proved to be an issue for those in the group who cannot see in the dark and they found themselves having to rely on the few light sources that the party had.   As the battle was ending, they spotted one of the creatures trying to slip away in the dark unseen. The party caught the creature and it surrendered to their attack. Speaking in Sylvan, Ilbryen told the creature that it would need to show the party a new way across the chasm with the bridge out and the party decided that they should take the time to interrogate the creature.
