Mist Sprite
Mist Sprites are Fey who dwell within the shifting veils of mist and fog, their forms as elusive and ethereal as the vapor that surrounds them. Standing roughly the size of a human, they appear as delicate, humanoid figures whose bodies seem to flicker between solidity and translucence. Their features are soft and blurred, with skin that glimmers like dew on morning grass, reflecting subtle hues of silver, gray, and pale blue. Their hair flows like strands of mist, drifting and curling in unseen breezes, while their eyes shimmer with an unsettling luminescence, resembling distant lanterns glimpsed through the fog. Though they can shape parts of their bodies into a solid form when needed, they remain semi-corporeal, existing between the material and immaterial, their presence often felt as a chill in the air or a whisper carried by the mist.
Mist Sprites are masters of subtlety and concealment, capable of slipping through cracks, gliding silently through dense fog, and becoming almost indistinguishable from the mist that surrounds them. Their ability to shift between solidity and vapor makes them difficult to strike or capture, as they can dissipate into mist to evade danger or reform in an instant. While they can momentarily solidify a hand to touch, wield, or interact with the physical world, maintaining a fully corporeal form for long periods is beyond their nature. This fluidity allows them to move unseen, making them perfect spies, messengers, and guardians in the veiled lands they call home.
The Court of Mist and Petrichor is where Mist Sprites are most commonly found, serving as silent watchers and keepers of secrets. They drift through the mist-laden glades and fog-covered moors of the court, ensuring that its mysteries remain hidden from prying eyes. Some act as attendants and envoys to Chancellor Eldrasveil, the court’s representative, who communes with the enigmatic Shroud of Unnerving Mist, the ArchFey that rules the realm. These sprites can traverse The Feywild with ease, gliding unseen between realms, carrying messages whispered on the wind or safeguarding the Court’s secrets with unwavering devotion.
However, Mist Sprites are not bound solely to the Court of Mist and Petrichor. They are sometimes found in other domains where mist and uncertainty reign, and their services are occasionally sought by powerful ArchFey who value their stealth and subtlety. They are also known to wander the mortal world, drawn to places where mist clings to the land—quiet marshes, ancient moors, and the mist-covered edges of lakes where the boundary between realms grows thin.
Though generally elusive and reserved, Mist Sprites are not without emotion. Their loyalty is deep, and they view their service as a sacred duty to preserve the mysteries they guard. But those who threaten their domain or seek to pierce the veils of mist they protect may find themselves lost in an endless fog, where whispers echo with warnings, and unseen hands pull them deeper into the unknown. Mist Sprites are the silent breath of the Feywild, the watchers within the fog, and those who cross them may never find their way out of the mist again.
