History

Zachariel Lynwood was born to two wealthy British parents in Sao Paulo, who had recently moved when business brought them to the city. His unique coloration of white hair and bright blue eyes was at odds with his parent's dark brown, causing some tension in the house as he grew up. Though he wouldn't go so far as to say his parents didn't love him, Zachariel was well aware of the strain between his parents. Unspoken but ever present. He wanted for nothing, growing up in a large house in a well-to-do neighborhood. He made fast friends with his neighbor William Madis, who was in a similar situation to his own. Will's parents had moved there on business and were from Europe. With busy parents frequently gone from both households, the boys were frequently left to their own devices once their various responsibilities were attended.

School wasn't entirely pleasant for Zach either. His pale complexion and odd coloration immediately made him other at the school from a very young age. Strange enough to warrant countless looks but not so outlandish that he was tormented for it. Largely ignored save for Will, who stuck by his side as they grew up and attended the same schools. Though Will remained his friend, they did not share the same social circles. William was a charismatic, athletic sort that was generally liked by all and did not lack friends. Zach tried not to feel like a charity case when they hung out - an insecurity he would grow out of as they eventually entered their last years of schooling.

Zach's story kicks off when William decides to take Zach out for his eighteenth birthday. While not exactly an outgoing person, Zach is excited to do something new with the friend he trusts so much. The night marks the first run in with a monster and Zach's official welcome to the supernatural.

With a shudder, Zach pushed away from the cold window and looked back to the couch where his babysitter was stretched out. Watching him. Luke always watched him. The monster’s yellow and gray eyes were a permanent fixture in Zach’s mind. Never mind Luke was an exotic and odd blue-gray all over and had short, sharp horns that jut from his messy silver hair.

A monster through and through, whose long body ate up the entirety of the hotel couch. Black booted feet dangled over the arm rest.

“Aren’t you bored you’re stuck here with me?” Zach might be whining. Hell, straight up pouting as he crossed the space and stared down at the topless monster on the couch.

Luke grinned. One of his toothy amused ones that was a bit too wide and showed too many sharp teeth. “Of course not. I like being here way more than I’d want to go do… whatever it is they’re doing.” Luke didn’t even know. Didn’t care what he might be missing out on because he really, really didn’t care. He had never expressed an interest in anything else besides Zach or himself. He seemed to tolerate the other two if only to keep the peace.

He’d gone from a quiet life in a large house to being displaced, distanced from his already detached family, and with so many extras in his life.

A quiet, cynical part of him wondered when the others, Luke included, might turn like all the other monsters. Would there be a day when they’d want to actually eat him? When they’d prefer to kill him then bother with…

Luke sat up enough to grab Zach’s wrist and gave a lazy tug. Strong enough without trying to tip Zach on top of him. The surprised action resulted in Zach literally sprawled, indignant while he tried to sort himself in a position that was actually comfortable. “You’re thinking too hard,” Luke remarked, one of his black-nailed hands combing through Zach’s hair. Almost but not quite petting him.

Supernatural

Zachariel is the first new Angel born in centuries. Because of that, the Templar don't know of him and there's a brief window during his early years where the various supernatural entities in the world can't sense him. A sort of blessed protection while he grows up that eventually wears off around his eighteenth birthday, coinciding with his outing with his best friend Will. Up until he is attacked in his house later that night, Zach had never encountered anything remotely supernatural. At least, not that he knew of. He was as ignorant to that part of the world as the rest of modern society. He is initially saved by Luke, another monstrous entity that picked up on Zach's fresh scent earlier that night.

Zach's birth coincides with a new type of invasion. While there had always been demonic forces that the other Angels had been created to combat, this new threat would come from another, dark realm. Something other and horrifying. Angels are protectors of the natural order - anything that lives and exists naturally on the planet. This includes the monsters that want to kill and consume them. Their primal enemy consists of demonic entities that destroy the souls of humans they possess and, now, the hungry alien presence from another realm that's invaded to consume.

The Monsters

Luke

Luke is the first addicted monster in Zach's life. He sensed Zach during the Angel's night out with his friend William and followed him home, where he mused on this new attraction he felt. He watched a shadowed creature hunt Zach through his house and contemplated whether or not he should intervene before, eventually, almost at whim, interfering and saving Zach. They don't meet until Luke saves him a second time, after a second attack that takes place shortly after the first. Luke is an irreverent chaotic entity - something closer to a spirit than anything human. He was made physical in the late 1400s, where myths were crafted around his chaotic and devastating nature. As this embodiment of chaos, he'd never had an attachment or care for anything mortal. Everything previous had been blips of entertainment in his endless existence. Finding Zach and forming this odd, new attachment to the Angel changes things for a creature who had never experienced such a thing before.

Baron La Croix

Known to Zach and company as Lakwa, the Baron was formed as part of an early pantheon in Central and South America. He is worshiped along with other entities that are connected to Vodou, Voodoo, Hoodoo, and Folk Catholicism. Depending on the myth, legend, or religion, he's a Baron, a Lwa of Death, or a member of the Ghede Lwa as Baron La Kwa. An immortal entity that has been known to be fickle, he was drawn to Zach when a well-meaning practitioner called upon the spirits for aid. He hijacked the call and appeared, introducing himself and forming a sort of truce with Luke to ensure Zach would not be harassed by other monsters. Much the same as Luke, Baron La Croix found himself drawn to and obsessing over the Angel.

Mehen

Formally Thueban Mehen, he is a 'naga' type creature with roots tracing to Egypt. He usually presents as fully human - tall and quiet - though he has the ability to shift into his serpentine form. His skin color darkens and his lower body becomes that of a long, scaled snake. Creatures like him were born during the reign of the Pharaohs and were loosely associated with the Egyptian primordial snake god Nehebkau. Though originally considered evil, their stories eventually became associated with the afterlife. Mehen is an immortal creature with accelerated healing. Having lived as long as he had and then devoid of purpose, he traveled around and got caught up in various cult activities until he has a run in with Zach. Recognizing the Angel as something special, Mehen finds a renewed purpose in life devoting himself to keeping Zach safe.

Relationships

While incredibly new to the supernatural world, Zach is also extremely innocent in the relationship department. He had one close friend and distant parents before the monsters rolled into his life and refused to leave. Angels naturally recognize and feel drawn to the monsters that crave them but have the strength of will to resist killing them. His draw and quick trust of Luke, Lakwa, and Mehen is incredibly hard for his best friend to understand, but it all feels incredibly natural to Zach. He has his moments of quiet doubt and confusion, especially because this is all very new, but the monster's addiction to him keep them close. Which in turn is oddly reassuring.

Sexuality

Zach had never given any thought to a relationship prior to Luke, Lakwa, and Mehen. He felt no particular attraction to anyone and, because he was more or less ostricized by his peers at school, never had the opportunity to connect with anyone outside of Will. He grew up with William, who he saw as more of an older brother than a potential romantic partner. It simply wasn't on his mind. For the Angel, mortal humans wouldn't have the same pull as the monsters he would eventually be fated with. The gender of said monsters never entered into the equation. It was more about the monstrous aspects of them - about who they were and how they entered Zach's life at a time of need. Their relationships with him develop based on his inexperience and their own care for him. Not expressly gentle but neither are any of the monsters willing to push too fast, too hard. Zach's happiness isn't essential, but it is important.

“Why don’t you want to kill me like the others?” Zach blurted into the ensuing quiet.

Luke’s smile remained. “This again?” A quick twist and blur of movement had Zach’s back on the couch and the yellow-eyed monster braced over him. “You’d be permanently gone if I did that.”

Zach shook his head a little. “Not true. The Custodians said I’d be reborn…”

Luke tilted his head before he straightened, kneeling on the couch. He didn’t answer right away, preferring instead to hook Zach’s legs around his narrow hips. Only once he’d pushed Zach’s shirt up and under his chin did he respond, but it was in an absent tone that made it seem like he wasn’t actually paying attention to the conversation. “That’s what they said. I don’t know them.” Even if Mehen had reluctantly agreed it was probably true. “And that still means I have to wait. For you to be reborn. For you to grow up.” Luke dipped down to lick over Zach’s shoulder before he hummed against Zach’s skin. “I could die from impatience.”

Zach shoved a little at Luke’s shoulder. Not that it moved the monster. “Not funny. You can’t die.” Right? That’d been the impression he’d gotten from Lakwa.

Luke’s hands trailed over Zach’s smooth abdomen and stopped at the button to his jeans. “Well. No. But I also don’t really want to have to experience time waiting. That’s a kind of death,” he teased, popping the button. Unhurried. “Not when I have you right here, now. I like this a lot more.”
