Peril
The three-hour drive home from Bratislava always felt so much longer when he was leaving the city than when he was going there for the weekend. Settled in the backseat of a newer, black SUV that was in one of the brother's names, he watched the countryside pass by painted by the oranges of the sunset. A quiet, peaceful place lined by trees and farmland. The only sound was the hum of the vehicle. After a weekend of partying in the various nightclubs, Usiel liked the still peace. Though his fingers tapped along his ripped black jeans on his thigh - something like a nervous or anxious tick - he was as relaxed as he ever got. Cutting away from the modern world to return to the tiny, rustic town that contained his home, and his monsters could be a jarring thing, but it kept his thoughts mellow.
Still. No matter how jittery his body might be.
Memories of the weekend would occasionally pop up. The neon lights, the sharp taste of alcohol, the smell of humanity and the hot press of so many living bodies. Almost claustrophobic. The glint of sharp teeth and cold chill of something more watching him from the shadows. Being stalked through the cobbled alley streets before being bodily shoved hard into a brick wall. A curdled breath promising death and the thrill of looking into black eyes, triumphant in the chase.
All wiped away in beautiful surprise when one of Usiel's monsters peeled out of the shadows. Proved that there were worse things that lived in the dark than whatever had been following Usiel. Oily black blood splashed in the low light before he was trapped by familiar hands and low, excited sighs. There was nothing more thrilling than being stalked through the late-night streets than having the hunt be turned around on an entity and Usiel's caretakers showing their enthusiasm for the whole ordeal by tasting him against the very wall he'd been caught against prior.
He smiled in the backseat while he looked across the sunset-tinted landscape. There were two less murderous creatures in Bratislava now and he'd had such a good time.
