The Long Winter begins to thaw, leaving behind a landscape of utter devastation. Entire nations have been scraped off the map, their cities reduced to ruined foundations. Rivers have shifted, mountains ground to dust. The Inner Lands in particular were hardest hit. The First Spring, as it is named, is marked by mass flooding as vast masses of meltwater pour out of the Inner Lands, past Gingbatsching, and out to the sea. Of the ancient cities, only Fucronavia, Gingbatsching, and Sarimovad remain, along with the ancient temple citadel of Zarathenis – however these cities are much-reduced husks of their former selves. Large parts of them are reduced to rubble, and new dwellings are simply built atop the ruins of the old. Surviving humans, reduced to an exceedingly primitive state, begin to pick up the pieces: building more permanent settlements, establishing polities, tentatively beginning to rebuild their societies. Virtually all of the original political units have been obliterated and swept away; in their place, new states form: the beginnings of Sariya, the Præfecture Fu as a rump state of the Drogasian Empire’s presence on Mondlokk, and the formation of a number of petty kingdoms along the southern shore of the Inner Seas on either side of the Sollis river. The Conclave of High Priests – what remains of them – convenes in the Temple Citadel of Zarathenis to discuss what happened and to consider how to deal with the fact that the Principal and Cardinal Divinities have turned their backs on the world.
