Bastion of the Sacred Dead

Construction beginning/end

Dwarves erect a stone edifice that is both honorific for their dead and a barrier against the explosive conflicts between the Dragonborn and Tieflings.

The dwarves were kept long chained underground, digging out rare metals and arcane components for the Elves to use in their experiments. They were a stubborn race, and one who could hold a grudge for the length of their life, and the freedom they experienced in the absence of their elven overlords was quickly incorporated into their society as a core ideal.   This led to ferocious fighting any time they encountered anyone other than themselves, pushing back the remaining Elves to the north, and the Tiefling and Dragonborn to the south. Knowing they couldn't maintain armed conflicts on both sides, and having a mounting number of their dead to honour, they chose to combine both problems to create an imposing solution, towering beyond anything either the Tieflings or Dragonborn were able to overcome.   Stoic warriors immortalised in stone standing in defence of their homeland for the rest of eternity. What better way could they have erected an edifice to their fallen heroes.   Once this fortification was completed and the pressure eased, they turned their eyes north east. Having seen at length the elves' use of magics to keep them under heel, they swore of anything not granted by the gods themselves, and the growing magical empire to the north caused great concern that a second enslavement was in their future. This would not be tolerated.
