Raid of Inspiration
I was intrigued by this format right from the start. Instead of just doing it for the challenge, I want to continue adding inspiration I get from other writers. As Nnce, the inventor of this challenge, stated in her article, inspiration should be appreciated. On Mirintha's homepage, I claim to take inspiration from all places, and if I draw from other WA users, it’s only fair to give credit.
As more inspiration flows into my world, I want to maintain this article as best as possible. Who knows - you might discover a world you haven’t heard of yet or gain inspiration from what I’m compiling here. You can find links to the original sources of inspiration in the headlines. Below my explanation, you’ll see the original inspiration, if permission was granted to share it. Otherwise, I included pictures showing how I’ve adapted it in my world.
Book covers from Tyrdal
Aran'sha was one of the first worlds I explored, probably because Tyrdal and I joined WA around the same time, and we’re both in the German channel on Discord. That’s where I first saw book covers and instantly knew I needed them. Partly because they’re beautiful, and partly because all the content of Mirintha is "written down in books," so to speak. It was a no-brainer.
Flip cards from Stormbril
Flip cards. I first saw them during Summer Camp while doing the reading challenge. That’s when I read Stormbril's Weaving Vinebark article, where he had those postcards you could flip. I was instantly captivated by them. Now, they’re all over Mirintha. I use them for truth spoilers, magic spells, portraits, and I’m sure there will be many more uses to come.
Dropcaps from Tillerz
Alana was the first world where I saw drop caps. While working on my CSS, I decided to use drop caps as well. This meant searching for a fitting font, experimenting with the color gradient, and finally adding them to the world CSS. I think my version of drop caps looks quite nice and fits well with Mirintha's overall theme.
Category header from Riverfang
The category headers are something I also came across during the Summer Camp reading challenge. While reading Riverfang's Nightbreeze article, I noticed her header for the flora category. After exploring a bit, I was inspired to create something similar for Mirintha. Soon, I will have category headers for all nine of my categories.
Glossary from Mochi
I can't even remember how I stumbled across this one. But as my world is being built for future TTRPG campaigns, I thought this might be really handy for my players. Can't remember where that mountain was? Look it up in the glossary. Can't recall whether a city was large or small? Look it up in the glossary. I have no idea if this will be helpful, but just in case it is, I’ll be doing it.
Unic toc-icons from Tillerz
Another thing that first caught my attention in Tillerz' world are unique toc-icons for articles, the navbar, and breadcrumbs. I'm sure I’ve seen these before on other sites, but somehow, I first really noticed them here. So now I’m on the path of choosing and adding them to all my past and future articles.
Recollection Stone from MLNW
When I read this article, I loved the idea of the recollection stones. As my world will use the Cypher System as a game system, those stones could work great as one of the cyphers. Overall, the world of Kena'an is a big inspiration for me - both for content ideas in general and for specific categories like cities. I think the world also appeals to me so much because the articles are rather short, with a word count of around 1.400 words per article.
Layout from BlueFairy
This was the first article where I realized how much you can do by changing the layout of your articles. Before seeing this and several other articles from Blue I only had text and the occasional image next to it. But this made me dive deeper into the application of rows and columns and with a lot of help from nnie I was able to get my barings around them. Now I use them on all my articles, including one column for the comments of a certain unknown reader.
Dragons from Nightone
I was reading some articles from Nightone for Spooktober and in his worlds, dragons can shapeshift but keep a smaller form of their horns. This fits perfectly for my Kadal species which already have horns. So now there can be rumors about dragons travelling the lands disguised as normal Kadal. This is certainly giving the dragons and the Kadal a whole new layer.
Jetzt hab ich auch endlich verstanden, wie diese Challenge zu verstehen ist. Schön, dass Du deine Inspirationen hier festhälst.
Und da fällt mir auf, dass ich dich morgen noch ergänzen muss …
