Timo crab
The Timo crab is one of the largest terrestrial crab species; it can be found across most of the southern oceans. Unlike other crabs, it has several adaptations to living on land, such as juveniles using the shells of snails and the like for protection until they grow older and develop a tough exoskeleton, at which point they no longer need the shell. Likewise, they have developed a primitive set of lungs instead of gills, meaning that once they leave their juvenile state, they will drown if they spend too much time underwater.
An adult Timo crab feeds primarily on fruits, nuts, seed but they will not pass on the chance to feed on carrion and other forms of meat, should the opportunity present itself.
Mating for the Timo crab occurs on land but females will lay their eggs in rivers and streams, the larvae will hatch after a month and resemble planton for another 5-6 weeks before they attach themself to the riverbeds, where they begin to develop into a shape resembling a minitature version of a Timo crab, as they do, they develop a soft shell, and the whole process takes up to 8 weeks before they are strong enough to leave the water and start their life on dry land, its in this stage were most of the juvenile Timo crab is most vulnerble to predators. Timo crabs reach maturity after 6 years on land, and during this time, they will have reached their maximum size and weight, although a subspecies, the Timothea crab, continues to grow throughout their entire lifetime and is believed to be able to grow up to twice the size of a Timo crab.
Healthy adult Timo crabs have no real predators outside of other, larger Timo crabs and humanoids. Among humanoids in those areas they inhabit, they are viewed as a good source of meat, and their shells are used as tools by the people.
