Teroga

In the southern waters, local fishermen are fishing in waters made murky by nearby rivers and storms that disrupt the seabed, throwing mud into the waters.   If the fishermen had to fish alone, it would be nearby impossible, but the fishermen get helps from the Teroga, a large seacreature that are known for its intelligence. The fishermen stands along the shore, a few meters out into the water waiting for their fishing partners drive the fish towards the fishermens nets, the Teroga signals to the fishermen by poking their heads outo f the water, showing in what direction the nets should be thrown.    The locals tell stories about how the Teroga and the locals have helped each other fishing throughout generations, it have had such an impact on the locals life that their people have been known as the Terogians, a name derived from their fishing partner. One local story shows how the relationship benetit both sides, the story tells that before the two groups started working togther, the fishermen were struggling to catch enough fish because of the muddy water and they didnt have the option of relocating their people as most of the coastline had already been claimed by other tribes or didnt offer good fishing spots. It goes that one day the Teroga, possible as part of a play amoung the youngers of the group, drove a school of fish towards the nets of a few fishermen, resulting in an amazing catch for the fishermen and the Terogas likewise were able to pick up a bunch of easy fish, besides those thown back by the fishermen as a "thank you". The story goes that a few days later, the Teroga appeared again and this time on purpose drove fish towards the fishermen and over generations they have perfected this way of working together.

These are, hands down, some of my absolute favorite kids of stories. This is every bit as enchanting as the relationship between the many tribes of plains indians in north america and the buffalo. Are they offered anything in return? Even if it's something symbolic, sort of like cave bear sacrifices. Kind of a "we know you don't understand this necessarily, but we're honoring you over here in a pretty profound way." or is there something that goes back and forth directly?

There are a small local spirit (not quite a deity) that are said to symbolise the bond between the two
