Teraline manipul
The Teraline manipul is a formation used by the legions of the Empire of Dercia they are a very adaptable formation that are especially effective in varied terrain and for complex manoeuvres during combat. Unlike the Phalanx or shieldwall formations used by the Principality of Clifia and the Kingdom of Kistals respective, the Teraline manipul allows the generals to use a more fluid cohesion, where small groups of soldiers can easily be moved from one end of the battlefield to the other without wasting much time.
The formation is beneficial during deployments to mountainous terrain, where space is limited and the manoeuvrability of the formation can be utilised to its fullest. Likewise, it is generally used in the more forested regions of the empire, where the more cohesive formations do not work, and the legion has to spread out more to manoeuvre around difficult terrain.
The name of the formations are debated, some scholars belive that its derived from General Lysa Teral, while a larger portion of scholars believe that the formation got its name following the battle at Terelain pass where two Dercian legions fought four Clifian Phalanxes and while the left wing of the Dercians managed to push the right wing of the Clifians back, a Decaris who must have possed enough influence among his fellow men, managed to round up up to 500 legionaries from the Dercian right flank and direct them towards the Dercian left and Clifian right flank who were still locked in combat, with the Clifians slowly pushing the Dercians back, the Decaris took these men and attacked the Clifians in the rear, which resulted in the collapse of moral and the following Derian victory.

Manpower
Each of the cohorts making up the manipulus is composed of 20-40 soldiers, 20 being the minimum number needed for the unit to work as intended and 40 being when a legion is at full strength.

Interesting. I like that they are at their best on mountainous terrain.
