Pacadia Isles
The Pacadia Isles is a scattered chain of islands rising from the Menilia Sea, far from the coast of the mainland. To sailors venturing out to these remote islands, they appear like emerald peaks, rising from the water. Believed to be volcanic in nature, although no eruption has been observed in living or recorded memory.
The people of the island, the Caldrani, farms and fishermen, are known for being stoic, patient, and suspicious of outsiders but welcoming anyway. Once trust is earned, they really open up and almost become entirely different people.
Geography
Walking across the island, one would observe black basalt cliffs, obsidian rocks, some massive, others fitting nicely into a pocket, and one of the island's main exports. Some places contain steaming fissures. Despite this, the islands have plenty of rolling green highlands. The black basalt cliffs on the coast form narrow coastal plains and create natural small harbours, well-suited for the small fishing boats of the locals.
Several of the islands have a central lake where the old volcanic crater, offering a place for fresh water and a relativly safe place for fishing compared to the open sea.
The islands experience frequent fogs that drift in from the sea and cling to the islands, sometimes for days.
The Pacadia Isles are famous for their hot springs, offering ways to bathe, cooking, and some of the larger springs play a role in rituals.
Climate
The climate of the Pacadia Isles is mild but can be unpredictable, with the weather switching frequently between rain and sudden sunshine, all accompanied by strong winds blowing in from the sea. The islands experience storms several times a year.
