Needles

In some of the marshes along the Empire of Dercias border to the unclaimed lands, the locals report a buzzing sound, which sounds like a swarm constantly outside one's field of view. If one is not careful and takes the necessary precautions, they will feel a sting, its unlike any sting from a wasp or beast, its like the air itself stung you, forming a needle out of the air itself and drives it to the bone. If one has been stung by the needle of air, they will soon see that the wound dont bleed, but the skin around the wound begins to turn black, spreading each hour that goes by. Healers have no cure for it, they cant cut it out, cant burn it away, not magic seems to help.   Locals will say that the best advice they can give anyone who hears the buzzing is that as soon as they hear the buzzing, drop to the ground and cover ones ears and pray to what ever deity you worship that the buzzing will pass you by.   Some Crienia believe that the needles are less of a natural danger and more of a divine warning, a sign that even the Dercian Empire have its limits. Others, especially among soldiers its believe that the needles are a punishment from a minor local goddess out for vengeance who then sends invisible barbs into those who trespass on her land. Some Decaris instructs their men to wear charms of iron or bone carved with symbols when they are marching near or in one of the marshes.   One thing all the marshes were the needles have been reported to have in common is that none of the locals live near the marshes; the nearest settlements are always days away, all in a near identical distance from the marshes.
