Naris manifesto
Naris manifesto is the name given to the document that declared the formation of the Dercian Republic its named after one of the central plazas in Pearlhal.
Pearlhal and the other client cities were on the brink of collapse following the mismanagement of the last few monarchs that had left the kingdom's coffers mostly empty, over-taxation of the population and certain areas were experiencing hunger.
When the last monarch, Queen Laria, had been ousted from the city and supporters of the monarchy either suppressed or disposed of in other manners, the senate, now the only institution with some level of authority left, stepped into the Naris plaza and read out their manifesto, the manifesto was read out by the senior magister Otho Varn, and copies were hung up on the temple and civic walls.
The public response to the manifesto differed between the social layers. The commoners hoped it would bring some lower taxes, but in reality, they didn't experience much change from one system to the other. The nobility had mixed reactions; some embraced the new system to retain some levels of influence, while others retreated to their estates in the countryside.
The manifesto itself contained several elements, like it abolished the right of the kings and the royal family; likewise, magistrates, commanders and judges became accountable to the senate, and all citizens of the city could rise through the ranks based on merit. Other elements of the manifesto incorporated elements of elven traditions, strengthening the bonds between the Crienia and eleven people.
Each of the major plazas in Pearlhal and the main assembly building in the client cities that owed allegiance to Pearlhal had a bronze plate of the Naris manifesto mounted in these places.
I really like the idea of bronze plates that have the manifesto inscribed on them being put up in other settlements.
